So no dice on sliding the tire over to one side, some dumbass cut holes in the bed and the shocks are now in the way. Looks like I'll make a plate for the tire hold down and keep it in the middle. Also found out my cheap Amazon Jerry can mount doesn't accommodate my cheap amazon Jerry can, so that's that I guess. Found another rust hole in the frame to patch under the stock shock mount in the rear on the pax side. Going to cut it out and weld some 1/8" fish plate over it. Started watching videos on building a new rear frame and linking it.... must turn those off...

Finally got to flex this bish after the new wheel and tires and I got some trimming to do. Surprisingly the driversside is fine consider it's a horrible tub job. Well let me just say my entire tub job is hack as fuck, but the drivers side especially. Its basically tacked in a few places and seemed sealed in there. The pax side needs some trimming, I may just cut it all out, and get a bottle and smaller wire for my welder and attempt to do it at least somewhat correctly.

And just incase there was a dry panty within 3miles of where you are viewing this picture, we will fix that with this mad flex...

It’d be cheaper and easier to just get me a plane ticket up there so I can do it right. :bananadance:
No but seriously, I understand your struggle. As crazy as this sounds, if you’re running your welder on a 20A outlet, try running it on a 10A outlet. I was blind to the fact I used to limit myself with a lower amp outlet combined with running an extension cord.
If you move around enough, the flux gas residue should only need to be cleaned off every few minutes.

Honestly I was surprised mine lasted 9 years and didn’t leak.

If I was still working for the airline I would just give you a buddy pass!
The flux core burns too hot and with the .035 wire it's too thick for this, I know people do it, but I dont have the patience. I fucked up on the drivers side where I went to town with a sledge hammer, then didnt have enough room and had to start cutting that sucked!

Oh yeah, I’m aware of the .035 flux. That’s what I run in my Lincoln 135 NASCAR machine. It’s what I did my bed bob and tubbing with.
But, if you put it on the lower amperage circuit you can get it to weld the sheet metal easier. That’s all I’m saying.
I had my bumper fall apart in MOAB because I welded it together on a 10 amp circuit and a damn extension cord (I just didn’t know any better). Now it runs great on the 20amp circuit for anything bigger than than 1/8”.

I would probibly just borrow a bottle from a friend and get some solid core wire and stack some dimes. I mean that's the only thing that matters, how it looks and if theirs no icky slag on there!

Now you have me worried I did half my SAS with it on an extension cord. I'm sure "extension cord" is code for shitty welding technique and design.:D

Well no chamfered edges didn’t help the whole extension cord scandal.
Unfortunately I spent too much time between highschool shop class and when I started welding on my own so that’s my other excuse.

I did my SAS on my S10 on an extension cord with a Lincoln 3200HD. Pretty much the same equipment you are running, sounds like.

Of course, I was on a 8-gauge extension cable, IIRC, and a 15-amp circuit. But in my case, I did chamfer the edges and did multipass. Knock wood, so far it's been 8 years without any broken welds. Enough so that I am going to SAS my Tacoma, and build a traction bar with the same kit.

Yea I'm 0% worried, I think scuba just blows ass at welding and is blaming the tools. I broke 1 weld so far and that was on a steering stop that I was pretty sure it was going to break off any way. If you design stuff properly you can easily do everything on these trucks with a 115v machine.

    All quite true.

I should correct my earlier statement- I DID break one weld- a shock tab I welded to the rear axle tube and didn't even bother grinding through the paint first. It was a shit install and I knew it when I did it, but I was just pissed things were taking so long then.

Once I got the flapper disk out and PROPERLY prepared the axle, it was just fine.
