Full Hydro would be nice! Though I'm not sure how long you could get away with it on the road...

I've been running it on the street since I got the truck. I've been never been pulled and even if I did nobody is going to know what they are looking at

Cops barely even know the traffic laws they commonly enforce, you think they would know what a full hydro steering setup looks like? There's currently a bounty in the Toyota forum on pirate for someone to find where its written that full hydro is illegal.

It's doesn't specifically state that full hydro is illegal. It states that it must have a "mechanical connection".

Behind the axle would be awesome but a major head ache trying to Bend all the links out of the way and if you go with leafs you can forget about running anything except full hydro behind the axle.

Mines held up just fine, 37's and duals. Not driving like a jackass rock bouncer helps a lot.

If I could change anything on my truck, it would be a Bronco box and ditch my hydro assist.

I don't know how big a tire you were planning but if you stay with 35" then the mini-truck front-end is doable(the FJ60/62 housing is thicker though)....the mini-truck can be made wider by 3" with the the IFS rotors. Maybe Cryo treat the mini-truck birfs ....or get some dirty 30 thing or something.
If you go bigger tires than that then maybe an FJ80 is a better option....then there is hydro to consider....and then is the 8" enough to handle it especially in reverse on the weak side of the ring....so many variables.

Idk what that is. It varies from state to state. My state law says "a vehicle must be equipped with a safe steering system" or something to that affect so its really subjective.

 please tell me more? Why would you ditch the hydro assist? And I've heard of people doing the f150 box and thought it would be more powerful but didn't think it would make that big of a difference. At least not enough to justify loosing hydro assist.

I know a couple of guys that use the Bronco box and haven't had any desire for hydro assist because of how strong it is.

I've had some issues with blowing a line, getting the resi to feed the pump well enough, and it's a bitch to bleed with where the fittings are on the ram.

And that's the point of the pirate thread as well, no one can cite a specific law outlawing full hydro system. I could argue the drive by wire system in the Camry is unsafe.

Technically anything we do to our trucks can be argued that we made them less safe since we have deviated from the original design of the vehicle. If I had more experience, or even had friends that did, with full hydro I would go for it. However amongst my group of friends they can barely get hydro assist to work right, and I don't want to be trouble shooting steering problems in the side of the hiway (or middle lane lol) in bumbfuck Kentucky!

The downside of the bronco box is that they are hard to find.

I get what you're saying. Full hydro is actually very simple. The biggest downside is that you have no steering if the truck isn't running

Well i found another rust hole:
    IMG_20150905_180320_247_zpsn6gorfcs_048b5283ffb60549a882d0e2ebfc65f0b158b4be.jpg

I have watched that rust spot get bigger over the past few months and smacked it with a hammer, and went went through it. Its on the same side as my other rust related frame damage/tear. So i ordered up a set of CBI frame plates, trail gear frame boxing kit and some leaf spring hangars from ruffstuff and im going to rebuild the frame rails. I was thinking back half, however i only have limited time to work in my buddies shop, and i need to get this truck back on the road soon since i need it to wrap up some house projects before the snow starts flying.

I have to bring the camry in for its 5000 mile service and im going to explain the situation to the service manager, explain the condition of the truck over all and see if it qualifies for the frame replacement. I'm going to stress that im not stripping the bumpers off, taking off my trans hump cover and rear shocks and trailering it to the dealer just to have them say no. I may have better luck with the dealer that i just spent 40k on a new car with then my local one who was giving me shit for wheeling my truck and welding my sliders on when it went in to get sprayed.

If that doesnt work, then ill pull the bed off and start plateing away. I am also going to fix my rear shackle angle, re route my exhaust and add a traction bar while the beds off. How do magnaflows sound? I like the small size and that's the only reason im eyeing one up, i don't want something that makes my truck sound like a rice burner.

Damn, that sucks. Looks pretty bad. Does it spread under the cab? If your not eligible for frame replacement... And it's ok under the cab. I'd chop the back half off and box up a custom frame.

Look at post #58 in this build for pics of the rest of the frame damage. The drivers side is bad, the pax side is solid and fine. Ill use the frame plates to kick the rust can down the street for a few more years when i'm ready to back-half and flatbed the truck. By then my stock bed should be destroyed enough to no longer be use full anyway.

I have to keep talking my self out of swapping the fj 60 axles under the willys, building that instead and parting out the taco LOL.
