After 13hrs 52mins, 10hrs straight of that in rain, 756miles and 7 fuel stops my tacoma is down in NC with me. Drama free drive as usual, truck handled well despite being pretty over weight and climbed the grades nicely. Got my house sold quick and closed on a place down here on Friday, so flew home Sat and grabbed the truck. No shop or anything, but the house is badass and the garage is bigger than my old one, but still a 2car and no way to add to it or build a shop. Oh well!! Time to get moved and settled in, do maintenance on my fleet and go wheeling.

What a crazy year 2020 has been, never thought I would be in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains if you talked to me on this date 1yr ago. 2021 is going to be the year of wheeling, first things first though I have to get this truck to pass state inspection in order to register it here, IL never had one outside of emissions. I need a parking brake to be in compliance and I plan on using the stock fj80 rear axle parking brake to do it. But even before that I need to replace the boomer tier florescent garage lighting that some how makes it darker in the garage with them turned on LOL!!! LED garage lighting mods in coming..... Other than that the only mods planned for the truck is a new gas tank and skid because 10gallons of fuel capacity brings the suck and fixing what I break wheeling. Can't wait to get settled in and the truck registered to go have some fun in the mountains!!

Ditched the boomer tier garbage lighting in the garage today. Went from 40w of florescent lighting to 300w per side of LED lighting. I can finally see wtf I'm doing!! Old

Weighed the truck at the dump today and with a full tank of gas, most of my spares in the tool box, no tools and no spare I'm at 4780. Didn't realize this truck was that heavy!!

I wouldn't doubt it! I'm running a pretty bare bones setup here and was surprised it weighed that much!

Went wheeling with @3milecreek and @ovrlndkull at Uwharrie yesterday evening/night. Nice to have a shakedown place that's close, 24hrs and not in an abandoned quarry like back in illinois... Truck worked great as usual, I think my cases are hitting my floor and causing some weird vibes and noise when loaded up in double low, I really need to install my new motor mounts and chain them. My ps cooler broke off before I hit the trail, no idea when that happened, I'm honestly surprised it lasted this long. I also need new spring bushings, other than that it's just chugging along! I'm digging these MT2s, they were breaking in nicely as the day went on, I was running too high of pressure in them (9psi) rather than my usual 2, next run im going to try that and see how they hook up. Mostly dry dusty rock yesterday.

I had to DD the truck for 2 weeks while waiting on a tire for my regular DD because of course it's discontinued and there was one left in the country... Anyway the truck started to have a pretty bad shimmy under braking so I decided to look into it today. My front spring bushings have been whooped out since my first wheel trip after the SAS almost 6yrs ago so I swapped them.

Truck feels better, I still need to grease them, my POS grease gun took a shit.

After that I decided to swap my motor mounts, kind of a PITA but it's done. They didn't look BAD for being 200k+ miles old and a bunch of dual case wheeling with them.

Inconclusive I would say. I tried to load the drivetrain up in double low in the driveway and did a few clutch dumps but couldn't replicate the forces of crawling. I'll update once I go wheeling again. I do plan on chaining the driver's side mount, I need to pull the steering box for that and didn't feel like diving down that rabbit hole yesterday.

    Slander,
Instead of the chain method, here is what I did to the DS of both motor mount and cross member mount... I don't have a pic of the motor mount.
    It's an old 'Marlin' trick.
    It works well.
