My first set of mounts are burned in for the skid. I won't have time/ materials to do the u bolt up to the cross member that I want to do for the pax side of the skid. Found out my garage breakers are happier if I plug the welder right into the wall without an extension cord. This should hold:

It looks like it warped down when I welded the brace to the skid, the good part is the skids pretty easy to bend with a jack/holy crescent wrench, so I'll just gun the bolt on there and call it done once it's mounted.

If the breaker is tripping with the extension cord try a higher Amp rated cord. My miter saw did that with cheap small cords when I got a good 30a rated cord no more problems

It's the crappy 15amp GFCI garage outlet breaker. I have an appliance extension cord that worked great in my previous garage with a 20amp breaker/outlet.

So is the skid being mounted completely independent of the gas tank now? Are you able to brace the other side at all?

It's half right now, but yea that's my end goal. My end plan is a piece of square tube or angle iron, and weld that to the rear pax corner of the skid plate, and attach it to the spare tire cross member with some square u bolts/u bolt plate. If you lay under the truck you will see what I'm thinking and it will make sense. I won't have that done now, but I'll knock it out one weekend in the future and post pics. The other advantage is you won't have the mounting bolts sticking down, which at minimum need a bolt protector welded to them IMO.

I dig it, our tanks def see some shit which is why I raised mine up. Of course the trade off there is that the drive shaft is no longer protected like you mentioned earlier. I reallly like the track bar/protector setup some other buddies fabbed up on their second gen, but my first plan is to get some super thick walled shafts built like another friend of mine did. He beats the shit out of his setup and so far the drive shafts still good. Everything is a trade off with these damn trucks lol.

I need to comb through your thread to see how you raised it.

It's a nice skid for what it is, just needs some tweaking!!

    Most of it is here:

Cynicalriders "J0hnny5 is ALIVE!" 01 build thread.

Covers both the front and the back mounts on the next page. Only thing I fucked up was that as I moved it up I should have moved it backwards too.

Hahaha I responded on that page!! Realistically I won't tackle rasing the tank until I upgrade my garage power, so annoying tripping the breaker mid bead.

Haha yeah it's been 2 years now, feels like forever. But agreed, that would drive me nuts. Making nice welds takes enough concentration without the worry of the panel tripping mid way.

It drives, no leaks, no codes and ready to rock. It will be nice not having to stop for fuel evrey hour on a road trip.

Took it wheeling this weekend, looks like the tire just kisses that bracket. It looks like I can grind enough material off to address that, good part it the spring doesn't hit it which is what I was worried about mostly.

Now hold on, 22gal out of a stock tank? Ive ran on E for quite a few miles an only ever put in 16.8 gal. Does the stock fuel gauge just put it on E that early?

    Typo, should have said 12.

Side note these tanks physically hold over 20 based on how much i put back in after the install.
