I did it from within with ratchet straps criss crossed between the tie downs and then lifting from the middle. Problem was that the topper moved the CG too high so it would want to try and flip.
maybe doable with a lighter topper and not my mid rise one

@cynicalrider I'm getting ready to raise the fuel tank and using your build thread as my guide. Any tips or anything you would do differently for the forward tank mount?

For the front I would have done a piece of angle with triangles to support it instead of the shit I needed to do trying to get square tube on there, but the concept would still be the same I think. What I really fucked up was the placement of the crossmember in the rear, and I don't think I called that out in my thread when it happened. I should have moved the crossmember like a 1/2" back from where it was originally placed to take into account the fact that as the gas tank gets raised its going up the slope of the frame and if you put the mount in the same spot as it is stock the crossmember lands further forward on the gas tank than it used to if that makes any sense.

If it doesn't make sense I'll try to draw a picture of the explanation ha

Also I know you typically make all your stuff but @eimkeith makes a more thought out solution than my original lift that I believe @Squeaky Penguin recently installed too.

Cool thanks for the tips! The crossmember makes sense, I talked to Keith about his kit but after thinking about it I would be not using 95% of his kit as I'll have a blank slate from the cab back. Good to know about the angle iron instead of the square tube as well.

Why would you raise you gas tank?? :anonymous::bananadead:

If I were you with the custom frame, I would raise the front mount first, bolt the tank in, support/level with a jack, cut the factory crossmember even with the inside of your frame, and see where it lands. Should be able to just weld the lower part of the factory crossmember to your frame and worry about making the upper part after.

Looking at my forward mount, it should be pretty easy to make something that works out of angle.

Lol I know right, I don't see how anyone who has been wheeling more than twice could not see the benefit of it, but I digress....

Im only going to have a custom frame from the cab back, but the concept you listed is what I'm doing anyway (do the front mount first and burn in the back.later).

Makes sense for sure, especially since you no longer really have much of a point of reference anymore on the old frame. I am curious now to see if I have even taken a scratch on the tank skid since the lift. It's been on there for 3 years now I think.

Don’t want to do a fuel cell and lose bed space I guess?

F no. I still use this as a truck, and don't trailer so I need bed space. Part of the reason I wheel a Toyota is to be able to carry stuff if I need it, if I wanted something with no cargo carrying ability, that needed a trailer, I would have built something way cheaper and better offroad LOL!!

One of the goals of this project is to re do my shocks to get them out of poking through the bed so I get that space back.

I'm surprised on how strong that skid is, I was fully expecting to cave it in. I am working on a better way to mount that thing, I'm not a fan of it being attached to the fuel tank.

You’ve got that limo bed, you’d still have room for your sex dolls and whippets I promise.

I’d say move your ICP discography from the bed to the cab to make more room, but I know it’s within arm’s reach at all times.

You depth of humor is at the same level as your knowledge depth of suspension systems.

It's actually your mom's homemade pornos she keeps mailing me taking up the bed. I can't get it to the dump fast enough.

You lie, I’m sure they’re phenomenal. She’s disappointed you could only scramble together enough brain cells to do a leaf sprung truck though.

At the level this “build” thread is on, I’m sure it will appear revolutionary to you! But truth be told, it’ll be a dime a dozen for most builds outside of TW. But you were on Pirate and should know that right?
