Did my first oil change, PO installed a fumoto valve.

    It was awesome and easy.

Anyone else have one? Any gotchas or maintenance? No idea how old it is...Are there o rings or something to change?

I have a Fumoto valve on wife's Lexus and an EZValve on my truck. Prefer the EZ as it has a larger inside diameter and oil flows out quicker. The Fumoto has a fiber washer of sorts; the EZ uses an o-ring. However, once installed you never need to remove it. Just check the tension periodically. Both have never leaked and are going on about 100K each. After each oil change I tape the openings with that blue painter's tape to keep crud out.

Have one. Glad I installed it.
    Super easy oil changes.

I don't think there is anything to do with it maintenance wise. There is a washer that was on it, as I recall.
Other than that, good to go.

That is one thing I noticed...Oil drain was super slow. But who cares, worth it for the convenience.

This one has I think 100k on it too, I wonder what the life of the valve is...

At work we rebuild ball valves after 100 cycles, but those are under pressure. This thing isn't. And it would take 300k miles to get to 100 cycles anyway.

    @95Taco80 @DrFunker

Did you guys have trouble installing your valves? I bought one and it is sitting in my garage. I was trying to screw it into the oil pan, but it felt like it was cross threaded every time, like it was too tight after a half turn so to speak. I didn't want to trash the threads so I just said screw it.

PS Why have I not seen this gorgeous blue truck! @95Taco80 ??? I'm down the road in Maynard

    Workin' on it....
Might have to chase your threads on your oil pan. My Fumoto went right in with no issues except for me not reading instructions and over torquing it......but 6 months in so far and it's all good (still over torqued but I figured best to leave sleeping dogs lie).

Which Fumoto valve fits the 1st gen 2.7L? I am looking on Amazon, but it will not say which model # is for a 2001 2.7L.
    Thanks in advance.

I had time to watch an episode of South Park while my buddies 4R (which was equipped with a fumoto flave) was draining. No thanks, I'll stick with the ever so complicated bolt, I'm a glutton for punishment after all...

I've got a Fumoto. Put it on over a year ago. I love it. I haven't had any problems with slow draining. I change my oil hot though. I can't see one ever wearing out. Their really isn't any "cycling" done with one to wear it out. The Japs are some of the best engineers in the world. I highly doubt they would put the Fumoto on the market unless it was thoroughly tested. I'd bet one would last 1,000,000 miles on any engine. I ordered the extended nipple and cover for mine. Not that either is necessary but that cover over the end does keep the dirt and mud out of the drain hole.

I don't understand the posts concerning slow drain. What are you guys doing? Changing your oil outside at 10 degrees when the engine has been sitting overnight. Even at that 5-30 or 10-30 would still drain easily in about 10 or 15 minutes. Mine takes all of about 5 minutes with the Fumoto. If that although I do change my oil in the summer as well as when the engine is hot or at least very warm.

Yeah its fun walking in through the garage door when the oil spills and runs up you're arm to youre t-shirt. Our wives see that and we might as well have walked in the house sayin,[I had to stick me whole arm up the cows butt to make the cow regular again] . I used to spend more money on orange hand cleaner, the money Ive saved on the hand cleaner has already paid for the valve. I can also flick that valve right after a long fwy drive not burn myself and get out more crappy oil/hot sludge than a guy that waits till its cold enough to pull that bolt, think about it.

I use a rubber glove.....well, not for unconstipating cows but for oil changes. AFAIK manure isn't carcinoginic.

I'm laughing so hard right now!,sprite just shot out my nose. You're right cow manure is probably alot safer to spill but smellier lol.

had my fumoto valve on 2 vehicles for 4+ years. Never an issue. Due to the smaller size of the drain, the oil doesn't flow as fast, whether it's warm or not.

Sorry for digging this up, but which fumoto do you use? They have several products and I can't really tell which is what I want. 3.4 liter, no skids, no offroad (well, I get firewood sometimes, but not crawling). I like the idea of attaching a hose to it to minimize mess. Suggestions?

    Thanks

When I bought mine several years ago, they just had the long nipple (if my old brain remembers correctly). Now, I’d buy the short nipple. I do have the oem skid plate, but I pull it every oil change. I do have a short 6”? hose I attach just to keep the splashing down into the drain pan. Note: it takes 2-3 times as long to drain so don’t be in a hurry
