There was a story at some point that the “average” Lamborghini buyer shows up at 2 pm on a Tuesday in flip flops and pays cash.

What Toyota Care covers may have changed, but the transportation coverage you described has simply moved from Toyota Care to the Transportation Assistance Policy. There is no change in the service Toyota is providing for transportation in regards to warranty or recall work…

When I was in sales I tried my best to not judge a potential customer based on their appearance. One day this guy came in looking like a beach bum with a backpack, but he had about $40k in cash in that backpack for the Tacoma he bought. That experienced opened my eyes a little bit lol

Isn't a tacoma a perfect "beach bum" truck until it rusts?

I appreciate that. I have a good relationship with the sales manager still. He's been forthcoming so far and we are 2 of the few NY Italians running around Saint George, Utah so I will run it by him. So far I have been basing it on what I was told by not only the dealership but Toyota also. I asked if there was a way to do it without me dishing out big money but they said no. At this point I decided that if it doesn't happen I will count on my neighbors and friends, who have already stepped up like the good people they are. They look out for me and mine. I'll save up the energy for the battle I may be up against in 24 days. I do appreciate it and will definitely make a call.

No good news but I'm limiting my stress by not making that one a big deal anymore. My friends and neighbors have been great and going to save my strength for the what might be waiting for me at the end of 30 days. The initial shock and pissedoffness (new word) has subsided and thinking less emotionally. Appreciate you

Goddamn what a nightmare. Hope that they don’t get the truck fixed within the 30 days so that you don’t have to drive around a truck with a replacement engine.

I was killing some time a few weeks ago and decided to take a peek at a Pro 4X, went into the dealership and asked the rather attractive gal sitting at a desk in the showroom if I could speak to a salesperson...without even looking up she said "they're all busy".

So, if by chance that one of these days I decide to possibly purchase a Nissan...it wont be there.

I expect that in NY. That one interaction cost them a $45k sale.

This checks out, they're able to mostly if not totally make their own work schedule (if actually still actively working) and dress for comfort.

That's just it sometimes, competition in the proximity is usually better for the customer. I don't think it's so much the industry per se, though I see what you mean. Too bad the top brass wouldn't pull the franchise or whatever it is from the ones that truly do suck.

This definitely happened with my 2006 Chevy Colorado dealing with GM. The head failed at 70K within the powertrain warranty as well as the secret warranty on the head..the one that supposedly nobody but me knew about, by the way. First dealer who diagnosed it and got it approved for warranty replacement was going to call me in a week to book it. 3 weeks later I call and was told they won't touch it unless I pay in full up front as they don't believe it's the head, despite what I already was told. The second dealer took and did it, then I show up in 2 weeks and get socked with a $2000 bill that I can't get my truck back without paying..."the main office will take care of you, I don't have the ability to"..main office said "oh he could have called us for approval, we can't help you". The owner of the dealership then told me "we didn't bother to try because it's not worth it to us, we lose money on the hourly rate and markup on parts..we're not here to work for free, you know". The main office tried telling me there's no difference in the rate. By the way, I didn't tell them I am related to someone who worked at a GM dealer in the body shop who knew for a fact there's a big differential.

This is the way I would expect if it were me. I'd have a hard time swallowing this BS if I had just laid out that kind of money for a new vehicle and the engine went bad so soon. OP, I think you need to be a bit more assertive with them and tell that that arrangement is unacceptable and that you want them to provide a rental car at no out of pocket cost to you period. I'm sure they can do it, they just want to see if you'll let them off the hook bu paying for it yourself and then waiting until they get around to reimbursing you. Plus, if you rent the car, YOU are the responsible party, not them.
