Update: Just talked with dealership service manager. Apparently Toyota DOES NOT send out crate motors and hasn't in years. I was told the opposite when this first happened, that Toyota wants the engine back to see the causes and they do not put bandaids on things. Fuckin stealership lies. They are rebuilding the motor with all parts necessary including a new turbo. The failure was a nipple that is located in or by the oil cooler, that is not designed to detach from where ever, actually detached under some sort of oil pressure which then physically blew off the oil filter or cooler.. don't remember which, and all oil then left the motor. There is no real ETA on any of this except he said the job will take a week once all parts were in. Let's hear what you people think. I am not happy at all about this new news at all.

Unfortunately it’s not, a lemon is a vehicle they can’t be repaired for the same problem typically after 3 attempts or is out of service for a month or more

 

17 days into their 30 day period now. I'm doubtful the dealer will get the parts and complete the repair before their time is up.

@BronzoTaco push them for a new truck. I'd let them know they're on the clock and you're super unhappy about how this has been handled so far.

 

You’re 13 days away from a lemon. If they don’t yet have the parts, and it will take a week to repair that could easily be 13 days (4 of which I am guessing the shop is closed for weekends).

I ‘lemoned’ a vehicle recently. Was relatively easy and didn’t need a lawyer. The car manufacturers know where they stand with this.

 

you don't need a lawyer for lemon law. The process is fairly simple after 30 days lapse. Toyota will buy back the truck no questions asked for full freight.

 

I second this. Wait out the 30 and start the process with Toyota.

 

I read the Utah lemon law and it is 30 working days so there is still time. I'm waiting for a call from the sales manager. Left a message telling him this is bullshit and can't wait to hear why it isn't. I need this bullshit like I need a second asshole!

 

I'm curious how Utah does their Lemon Law. I'm assuming it's 30d out of service or a certain number of attempts to fix a particular issue in so many months like most of them work. Once you trigger it, you send a Last Chance Letter to Toyota and they get one more chance to respond? After that, you file a suit? That's how most Lemon Laws I've read work.

I hope Utah is cool enough that you can make them cover attorney's fees. Not all of them work that way.

The service guy who told you Toyota sends them a "crate" engine is an idiot. Toyota doesn't sell a complete assembly so it has to be pieced together. Hopefully you get a competent tech. Unfortunately being a fairly new engine you get to be their guinea pig
