I mean seriously I'd just be happy with a lake or a general body of water where I can do some fishing. :)

Is there a lot of lakes out there?

Some lakes. The most are around Dallas, especially east. If you want to fish around the Houston area the best bet is the shallows of the coast. If you live on the south or southwest side of Houston (the arc from Sugar Land to League City) and you can be on your boat in less than an hour easy.

There is also Lake Conroe north of town which has some good bass fishing. You can live on that lake and its a reasonable commute to jobs on the north side of town. Also Lake Livingston a little farther out.

I was born and raised in San Antonio, and still own a house in Boerne, just north of town. Currently living out of state for work, but I will say, you should not have an issue finding work anywhere in the area. Do you research and take an extended trip before you pull the trigger, if possible. Like any big city, the geographical area is vast and differs greatly in demographics. There are a lot of great areas all around town to live. At the same time, there are plenty you would likely not want to live in..

Normally I'd say Texas is full, but you seem like a good guy. Best of luck with your endeavors:cheers:

Boeing, LM, Draper Laboratories (guidance and navigation computers for ICBMs and SLBMs), SpaceX... They're all out here.

Look at the list of current NASA contractors and start applying.

If you want to go into petroleum / chemicals, the Texas gulf coast is where you want to be. Even with a completely fucked market and job losses, they're still hiring and generally prefer prior military.

Just keep in mind, you're wanting to find a job and move to a state half way across the country in the middle of a pandemic, major recession, and abysmal economic policy. It's gonna be tough.

I'd live out the rest of my years in West Texas if given the smallest opportunity.

I've been out here for 6 years now and have no intention on leaving anytime soon. Is it as pretty as other parts of the state? No. Do you have to drive a ways to see water? Yes, but I'm also 3-4hrs away from the mountains of NM and Big Bend. The job market is hit or miss out here depending on what you're wanting/willing to do. Most work in the oil field or in support of the oil field which brings with it its own set of challenges, but one can make a good living out here if one is smart.

I don't know man, the West Texas desert is as beautiful as it gets. Guess it's a personal preference.

Oh don't get me wrong it can be mesmerizing for sure. Not much better than a West Texas sunset with a cold beer in hand.

I interviewed for a park ranger position, it's more like a tour guide then enforcement. Texas does have wildlife enforcement positions.

Pull up a map of the Galveston area, the Brazos river empties into the gulf near there. Plenty of fishing opportunities.
