The UCA is still not supposed to hit the spring at full droop.

Is there a top plate spacer?

 

LOL, the question was the CV did not look right....

 

Could be related. If his static ride height is too high, the boot fins wear faster.

Also noticed these on my LR UCA's. . . I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to be touching the spring. . . OME 885 coils. This is at full droop with the wheels off.

Ive seen this on a locals taco, it may be an issue with the combo of components?

Those are outer CV boots.

There are a couple aftermarket inner boot kits as well as a Toyota OEM boot kit. I think dude has the right idea with the narrow worm clamps, other styles are a bitch.








Also, nothing wore through, the rubber rotted and cracked. Mine did it the same spot on both sides.

 

The one I posted was the inner.

 

Just ordered two inner boot kits from Rockauto.com. I chose the 2 day shipping so I could get it done this weekend, so the total was $30 after shipping. The other inner boot on the passenger side was looking pretty rough in the same area the driver side split. Also went ahead and ordered the diff drop kit from Toytec to help keep this from happening again. This will be a weekend full of fun learning experience! . . . . . not. Wish me luck.

 

Diff drop does more harm than good if you go off-road:

Just stretch the boot (clamp the boot further along the shaft) so the fins don't touch when the truck is sitting on the ground.

You need to get a tool for the clamps, or order worm drive clamps.

 

hose clamps are good

just remember, even with the clamps you may still end up tearing boots....though they do prolong the life of them
