I understand that, I just get sick of seeing new threads pop up about how to do this. If the OP follows through, and finishes successfully, it will be a definitive answer. Then hopefully, the new threads will cease.:):)

I've actually seen this somewhere before...the 2x to 4x conversion that is lol and they got deals left and right luckily but it was actaully cheaper then sellin ther prerunner and trying to buy around the same year truck give or take 1 year by a few thousand dollars...I say go for it man and shut everybody up haha....plus if for some whatever reason you want or need to sell it, ull get more money because its a 4x4...good luck and I also think it should be a sticky after ur done jus because ther are a lot of people that ponder this Q in ther head haha

What did the tranny come out of? if its a tacoma, you should be able to just extend your speed sensor cable and plug it in... if its from a 4runner you will need a speed sensor and a speed sensor gear.

came out of an automatic 99 tacoma 3.4L with 89k miles on it..

But a couple of the plastic electrical connectors are broken so Idk about
them but I asked and I think I can replace them with the one in
    my current transmission

hmmm... not sure... if you dont get an answer before monday i will cross reference the part numbers on the different years... i dont think you can, but i will check... i know you will need a different speed gear. the shafts on the 2wd is too short to reach

you have your speed sensor that goes on the back of the transmission, well there is a small gear that goes inside there and reads the speed of the transmission that relays it to the sensor. the 2wd speed gear is too short. they offer these with different number of teeth. if you are running a good deal larger tire and dont plan on re-gearing you can adjust the speed by changing the gear... they are not too expensive if i remember right
