Trying to decide between hand held and a permanent mount in the truck. Just don’t want an ugly mount kinda OCD about the wiring and mounts

a lot of bad ass stuff
I run one. Two reasons why I put one in was for trail rides, and the occasional traffic jam, where listening to the truckers can either provide to be informational or hilarious, if not both. However I know a lot of the guys I have rode with have switched to hand held ham radios. Of course no one has a license to use one but it doesn't stop them. So I know run both a ham and CB when trail riding. Either way not a bad idea to one or both.

If you’re really handy you can take a full size radio and do the faceplate extension mod to have the main unit under the seat with the faceplate mounted under the radio/in front of the cup holders. That’s what I originally wanted to do with my 2nd gen.

    Yes
I’ve got a hand held and I really like it. I can’t take credit for install, PO did it. Everything is completely hidden, it plugs into the center console. When I know I won’t use it for a while I just pull the antenna and handheld radio and stuff it under the rear seats

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

If I ever get rich enough to have a collection of cars just for the hell of them, a Bronco is definitely on that list.

    Camping wise
Morganton Campground on Lake Blue Ridge. The lake is at summer pool with all the rain. It's a pay campsite. Some campsites have electric hook up.

Rock Creek Rd near Chattahoochee fish hatchery. First come first serve, no payment require. Primitive camp site basically near the road.

Jack's River Campground in the Cohutta's. Primitive, probably a fee but I dont know for sure. Was damage last year by a tornado but everything has been fixed. Miles of forest service roads around the campground.

    Trail wise.

Miles of forest service rd both in the south part of the county and in the Cohutta's (west part of the county.) Nothing extreme or even requiring 4wd. Couple of rides I would recommend is ride up to Springer Mtn (start of the Applachian Trail) and then a quick ride to the Toccoa Swinging Bridge. Another option is Watson Gap to 3 Forks to Conasauga Lake and back. Watson Gap is in the Cohutta's near Jack's River.

    Hope this helps.

I saw a thread earlier of guys talking about running ham radios I wasn’t sure how popular it was yet
I used to work for a radio communications shop so I have some tricks for mounting one clean it’s just that CB company’s don’t offer faceplates or any clean attachments for mounting. The deck with the remote head like you described might be an option.
Could you point me in a direction with a make or model of the system you use?

Thanks for all the reply’s I appreciate it!

Yeah, with the modification in the thread I posted earlier, you’re using the factory faceplate. What you’d end up doing is cracking open the radio and one by one soldering an extension for each and every wire, hence making the factory controls now remote (the OP of the original tread did a good job of pics to explain better). I wasn’t able to find any factory remote options, as you’d mentioned. Then again I haven’t looked recently either.

That is probably the most impressive remote mount I’ve ever seen as far as his skill set goes, soldering 80 connections on the same unit sounds like a nightmare!

Been watching on Instagram. I’m jealous.

Those tires are borrowed right? You going to buy the same kind or something else?

Yes the tires I am on are borrowed. I am going back to my brushed copper wheels and 285s till I can afford 35s... I had the money and about ordered a set the a lightning storm decided I needed new electronics for the house :frusty: but it’s all good. I’ll get a snorkel next, then gears and tires driving on the 35s hurts on highway driving. Hopefully the tune helps a lot then I’ll get tires then gears.
