Finally got around to doing this mod today. So much nicer than the clicker hanging from the visor.

I was debating on putting it up above like the OP vs. where you have, I feel like you could have easier access to replace batteries in the clicker or switch it out if need be (where you have it). What was your reasoning for putting it on the lower left hand side?

I put mine on the lower left. Getting in there is super easy...takes like 10 seconds to pull the panel out. I did it there because easier for me to get a slot for the button and plenty of room to store the opener.

I originally was going to put it up top as well. I was going through posts and came across a switch in my current location. Like you said it has easier access to the garage door remote, and I just used an add a fuse to illuminate the switch.

All in all it was easier at the time.

If I were to do it again, I would have got the Meso Stealth Pro shift knob with the dual buttons. And just used the right button to control the remote.

I already have Meso’s first released Stealth Pro knob with the single ect button, and didn’t feel like getting the newer version just for the garage door mod. Lol

Just a decal. I bought some silver ones and some black ones on eBay. Put the silver on first, didn’t like it, so I applied the black over it with just a little silver showing on the edges.
It’s been up there a few years, so I don’t have a link. I just searched TRD decals on eBay.

These trucks don't have a built in garage door button?

I modeled and printed a switch plate for the unused passenger side of my overhead console. I've uploaded it to thingiverse if anyone wants to use it. I think that space is only unused on non-sunroof models and it required significant modification to the back of the overhead console. Instructions can be found on these forums if you search.

I'm pretty proud of the end result. It looks completely OEM. I can take some pictures tomorrow if people want.

can you take it a step further and mod the antenna to improve the remote range? I have this same remote and am thinking about doing this mod and may take a stab at adding a piece of wire to improve the antenna range. also what paint to others recommend for a better factory match with the shapeways 3d printed overhead switch panel?

Running mine a few days now and have slightly better range than I did when the remote was on the visor.

While I am sure you could boost an antenna, I don’t know that you need to.

With it in my hand I can go across the street and 3 houses down and open the garage door after I extended the interior garage antenna up to the front of the garage. When it’s in my visor I have to literally be right in front of my driveway. The position is killing it. I’ll probably play around with this mod and antenna extension of the clicker itself.

I did this a few weeks back. Put my momentary push button to the right of the rear diff lock in the upper console area. I may eventually replace this with an OEM sized switch and the 2-bank plate. But, for now - this works great. The blue is pretty close to OEM.

for you with wired mirrors why not go for the built in? i had to run my own wiring but this would be way easier for you. 35 dollars on ebay.
