I really hate clutter and hate my garage being that way. I’m a child of parents who never had any functional space in a garage except laundry area, because they had so much shit.

With the car stuff gone it’s really effective, but I fucked up years ago and brought this frame here. My house is small and has next to no storage, especially for 3 kid family like ours. Was pregnant with our first when we bought this place. My FIL has a 2200 sq ft shop that was the same, totally useless and filled with shit.

I intend this to be temporary. I can’t stand disorganized garages, don’t want to be like my parents. Next garage will be painted walls and nice sheet rock or plywood walls if it isn’t rocked when I buy it, forever garage will have polished concrete, metal storage and great lighting. Also a lift.

I hear u, my dad was the same way. And I swore same thing when I moved to my new place and built my shop. But alas, 4 years later and it's full. Build as big as you can afford, and whatever size you think you need, double it!

That way you have room to store twice as many projects as you think you will ever have time to get to! Still won't be enough.

exactly, it’s never enough. Although it’s nice to compromise between space and projects. I like to be able to walk around in the shop even with 1 or 2 projects actively in progress.

Well new home owner here but the first thing was to get the garage right of course. Just did the garage floor epoxy, led fixtures, and now it’s time to move in the rest of the tools.

Oh and for the record my very original cordless stuff was Makita 9.6V and one 7.2v drill with a built in battery! I still have a 9.6V drill, tiny circ saw, saber saw.

I’ve wanted to do this for years. My problem is what do you do with your stuff while prepping and applying the coating. Yours looks great

We can’t do that wear I live. High humidity and dew every night. All of my stuff would be wet by morning. The only thing I can think of would be to do half at a time but then there would be a seam.

Makes sense. I live in the desert so it wouldn't be an issue for me.

Beware, most of the tools in that combo are brushed and the models are a few years old. Dewalt/Home Depot like to slide their bottom tier tools into a lot of these combo kits.

I think these are some better value Dewalt combos:

    I got this one: https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-...Ah-Batteries-and-Charger-DCKTS600M2/314115223

Or the atomic combo+ 2 free tools for $400

Lowes combo is out of stock online but has better drill/driver than HD: https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-20V-XR-SOFT-STORAGE-6-TOOL-KIT/5000149347

In my own experience, the brushed models are still more than sufficient for a shade tree, but I totally see where you're coming from.

There are other vendors that will regularly beat the box stores on the latest and greatest models. If you know what you need/want you can buy the “tool only” option and then get the charger/s and batteries you want as well.

Case in point, the HD 5.0 M18 batteries are on the way out and are no longer being manufactured. The 6.0 M18 batteries have replaced them and are better in more ways than just increased capacity. All of these changes and updates are kept up with by tradies who rely on them for their daily income but regular folks like us are often left in the dark and have to decide using sale advertisements and store employee recommendations.

Check out the Milwaukee Tool website to see what they offer and what you feel would suit your needs. My recommendations are at minimum a 3/8” impact, an oscillating multi tool, 1/4” hex impact (to run fastener and drill bits), angle grinder, and later add a sawzall and a 1/2” impact if required/desired. I suggest this coming from an off-roaders perspective focusing on maintaining 4wd cars and making modifications to suit. There are of course heaps of other fantastic offerings to make many other jobs much easier and you’ll see tools in the light weight M12 series and the heavier duty M18 series. I rely on M18 tools here which keeps my battery and charger infrastructure simple to maintain and manage but I’ll be the first to admit that some of the lighter weight M12 options certainly look appealing to the shoulders and elbows.

    https://www.milwaukeetool.com/

I’ve used these guys quite a few times without issue and have gotten better deals on tools that I didn’t “need that day” over walking into a box store to pick one up.

I also deal with a couple of well vetted and reliable vendors on Facebook as well.

Depending how bad you want to do it and how much stuff you have, a pods rental is about $200 for a month. I've never used them but just thought of the idea.

edit: oof, $80 drop off fee and $80 pickup fee

Rented a pod when I had my floor done. An added expense for sure, but my tools, box, and other stuff were secure and out of the weather. IMG_0652.jpg
