This has been a handy little tool. I picked one up on a whim at a local hardware store on closeout. It has the tiny torx bits (4-9). Like the teeny ones you never seem to have when working on knives. Changing out the pocket clips and whatnot. Anyway, I ended up finding them at Summit and got another one for my box at work and for three of the guys in the shop that kept asking me if they could borrow it. I am a brand whore with tools but this little guy gets more action than I ever would have thought. Its a handy little setup, ratcheting handle that pulls out of the bit block. All magnetic. Super compact and convenient setup. Get ya one!

Yeppers! Question for you Mr Metal… you have a good source for 1” plate and big schedule 80 pipe? (Like, -6” dia?)

 

I got multiple great sources for steel; I'll swing by tomorrow to one of my favorites as I need some 16 gauge hot rolled. I'll see what he charges per sq.ft. for 1".

For pipe, look to see if Ramcast Ornamental has their catalog or pricing guide online. I get my new stuff through them as they're the cheapest.

For instance, $71 total for a 4' x 8' of cold rolled 16 gauge. Other places charge $120+ for that without cuts too. I got 3 cuts for free from that sheet as I don't need larger than 2' x 4' sheets unless someone has a specific request.

 

I’m still hoping to talk to a tooling company like wilson or the folks you talked to. I sent a couple emails… Looks like common punch lengths are 20” and 36” so it’ll be something like that.

 

Talked to both wilson and durostamp. Durostamp is better for pricing and probably plenty good for our purposes. But yeah, a segmented gooseneck, multi die, and carrier are going to be $1800. (Wilson was 2x the cost) But that would let you bend from 16 ga to 1/4.
Press design is coming along. Trying to figure out what needs to be 1” and what can be lighter. And also how to keep the bits that need to be machined do-able on my 16x20 travel cnc mill!

 

Who here has a newer harbor freight obd2 scanner? I would like a home scan tool that does airbag/abs, live data, freeze frame, and component testing but that would have to be the ZR15s and I am not spending that much when I can use the snap on shop scanner most of the time, I am considering the ZR11s since it can do most of what and I want is is cheap enough to only use 3-4 times a year

just tried to order but it's only for folks from the trade show. That price point is UNREAL. Just looking at the bits there's $4k of parts on there at retail cost, let alone fabrication/assembly/software, etc etc. Man I'm glad I didn't start ordering materials.

 

Standard tooling, check. Open sides check. nc controlled back stop, check. nc control press, check. really this pricing can't be real. bananas. Too bad it won't do 2' of 1/4" but... it'll do 18"!
