Ive got a ton of Tekton sockets. Good for the price and have held up great as my "go-to" sockets for everything.

As for ratchets...Ive got a set of the standard Tekton ratchets (non comfort grip, 72 tooth, oval head) and they are meh. Nothing wrong with them function wise, i just dont care for the selector lever.

I also have a bunch of GearWrench ratchets. Both comfort grip and the smooth handle. Flex head and non flex head ones. Most are 82 tooth but do have a 120 tooth one as well. They are my go to ratchets. The selector lever feels a lot nicer, flex head works well, umm its a ratchet haha.

This set specifically is the one I have for non-comfort grip ratchets. Goes on sale from time to time.

i just got a 3/8 flex head long arm from Cliff @wcp0611 . he sold me a couple including that one, a Carlyle R38S100. it's got 100 clicks, nice grip, long arm, smooth and everything. so far I've probably pushed it to maybe 50-60ft/lbs only but i like it. he may have another. BNiB $50. $75-80 retail.

I do like Snap-On ratchets too. Just pricey if you want new!

Though I will say Proto is probably my favorite "industrial" brand. Ive seen a fair number of Snap-on ratchets break catastrophically while the Proto's handle the same situations just fine. Mind you these are also abusive situations so not blaming snap-on at all. Mostly trying to get flanges made up at work and using either cheater bars or two guys on the ratchet. Only once was it the pawls that broke...usually its the actual anvil holding the socket that breaks. Also seen quite a few breaker bars broken the same way. Much prefer seeing the mechanics using wrenches

Kinda like using a 1/4" ratchet to torque head bolts .

Are you talking 3/4" ratchets that are failing ??

Then on some jobs I received a $200.00 a month tool allowance In most cases the job was buying tools one way or another.

I am sure having great dealers helped as well.

3/4" and 1/2". Depends on the piping configuration as to what will actually fit a lot of times (in picking 1/2 or 3/4)

I’m at the point where I use contacts for most tasks then reading glasses for close up work and, well, reading.

Last year, for my ‘regular’ glasses, I got lineless bifocals. I’m using them more and more. Rather than having that sharp line of different focal length, it’s gradual and not so much of a PITA. YMMV.

    Back to original programming..

Only Euro stuff I’ve tried/owned is Knipex. I’ve noticed once you venture into European and Japanese makers that it really drops you into a worm hole I can’t get into.

Has anyone here ever had good luck with a tool they saw on a TV infomercial and would recommend buying?
