Garden Sprayer To Fluid Transfer Pump.....

    It's nothing new and has been done before but I thought I'd put it out there in the event that someone feels that this will make it easier on themselves. Although I haven't tried it out yet because of the weather, I see no reason why this shouldn't make a sometimes messy job easier and neater.

    To convert the garden sprayer:
    1. Install tire valve (.453 valve - 29/64 drill bit)
    2. Install pressure gauge 0-30psi (1/4"NPT - 7/16 drill bit)
    3. I changed the wand using a larger diameter wand. This was the most challenging to make it fit properly

    Version 1.0 pictured. If the wand assembly doesn't perform satisfactorily I'll change that out with a different type.IMG_4289.jpg IMG_4290.jpg

    Where you get the sprayer? Looks better than Walmart’s brand.

    I like it. I have two (of the cheaper sprayers) that I have now - one for gear oil and one for ATF. Agreed, does make the job less messy. I didn't add the tire valve and just use the hand pump that is part of the sprayer to build pressure. On the one with gear oil, I added a ball valve near the end of the hose to make it easier to shut off the flow when under the truck. I tried the little hand pumps that attach to the small bottles, it worked ok, but was messy and slow, especially when having to move the pump from bottle to bottle.

    I added the tire valve as a backup to build pressure. In the event that the sprayer pump fails I can still build pressure with a bicycle pump or carefully with a compressor. It's cheap insurance. I wouldn't want to be midstream and it fail (although unlikely).

    Curious to know how it will work with Diff Fluid.
    Did you change the inside tank tube as well?

    The sprayers I’ve used has small diameter tubing on the inside.
    It would probably work, but maybe be slow?

    Good point. I left the original one but did remove the "filter" on the end. From what I've read that doesn't seem to be a problem but the proof will be in the pudding. I'm biting at the bit to use this and get new gear lube in my diffs and t-case but Mother Nature isn't cooperating.

    I use the original tube that came with the sprayer I use. The gear oil doesn't flow as fast I would like, but I think slower fluid transfer is worth the trade off for a cleaner job with less risk of over fill spillage.

    I didn't use the wand for the diff fluid one I made a few yeas ago (see below) . I used some soft copper at the end so I could hang the filler end into the diff file hole and not hold it. I made another one in the fall for ATF and I used the wand (cut the spray nozzle off) and the wand worked fine for ATF.

    I modified a Walmart pump sprayer tip by removing the nozzle, adding a little heat at the end and making a bend. I wanted a bend that would hook onto the tranny fill hole and also the rear differential fill hole.
    Works great!

    3/8" I believe. Flow rate will be impacted by the smallest ID hose, which I think is the smaller ID tube inside the sprayer

    True to form, I'm overthinking this but this is how I'm wired.....
    I'm putting together another wand. I'm waiting on several fittings to arrive to complete this. This should flow better than the original wand. I'll test the original and report back.IMG_4300.jpg

    Got the rear diff and t-case gear lube changed between snow squalls. It worked very well although a little slower than I had hoped for. I used Amsoil Severe Gear 75-90, kept it indoors till it was time to fill. Pumped up to 15-20 psi and let her rip. One quart took about 1.5 minutes to transfer. Completely mess free and no excessive pumping. Next up is the front diff when the weather becomes more cooperative.

    That's great! Planning on doing mine in the next couple weeks and keeping the oil & pump inside is a good idea. I change mine every 2 years, whether it needs it or not. Running about 18k Km per year.

    29/64 drill bit for tire valve hole .453
    1/4" npt tap
    5 minute epoxy (use at base of gauge)
