Anybody use a Garmin 64st gps? How do you like it ? Dislike it ? Or have a suggestion for something better. I would like to purchase one for when I go out wheeling and also for when I’m on the boat. I know the 64st comes with the 100k TOPO map which is fine for me in Fl but would I be able to buy Garmins marine charts and load them on there as well? I want to stay away from touchscreen and has to be waterproof so that’s why I’m thinking the 64st. I do really like the fact the the Garmin inreach has the satellite phone capabilities and EPIRB but I don’t want to pay the monthly fee. I wouldn’t use it enough. Does anyone that owns an Inreach know if you can still use the SOS EPIRB feature on it without having the monthly sat phone subscribtion ?

I have a 64st and it works pretty darn good. I have used it for wheeling and just traveling, but I dont have any experience with Garmin's marine maps on it. One thing thats a bonus in my book on the 64st is the fact that it uses AA batteries, but you can also hook it up to a 12v outlet and power it as well.

Didn’t think I’d ever hear anything from this thanks for the input. I didn’t realize that you could plug it in also thats pretty nice. How accurate are the trails on it ? Are you still using just the base 100k TOPO maps? Or have you upgraded?
Also how about connectivity time ? I used my brothers older marine Garmin on a wheeling trip a few weeks ago and the thing took forever to connect to the satellites

Doesnt help right now but.....literally just ordered this same thing 64st tonight. Should be here tomorrow, the topo and the birdseye was really appealing along with all the positive reviews and heavy duty construction.

Keep me posted On how you like it. Where did you order from ? I think the lowest I was finding online was around 260$. Seems pretty reasonable for something that I honesty believe should last me a lifetime. Definitely seems very well built which appeals to me.

Got it from Amazon, $267. Looks like with the glonass and the topo 100k maps that it will be pretty universal for traveling and exploring different regions of the US. Plus huge draw was that its able to pickup a location fairly quickly and stay connected.

Yea that was definitely a big appeal to me also. I think Garmin advertisered under 2.5 minutes ? Like I said I used my brothers older Garmin handheld marine unit the other weekend and it tooker forever took hook up. I’d say 10-15 minutes atleast

I have the 62 and it has worked well, if your looking for maps check out this Garmin site, you can zoom in and get pretty detailed maps for free
just pick the area you want and download to Garmin basecamp to load onto your 64

    Update:

Been playing with the 64st for two days now. Pretty awesome device, definitely has the capabilities that I was looking for. As always external storage is a must when loading custom maps...one thing I found out is that the max external SD card storage you can use is 32gb. This uses the Fat32 formatting, larger cards use NTFS or exFat, both are incompatible with the 64st software and cannot be reformatted to the needed Fat32.

Didn't really have any issues, Windows 10 machine. Only real issue was selecting the correct usb port to talk to the device.

If its anything like the Garmin MAP60 that I have, the 64st should be phenomenal. Maybe its time I upgrade?
