One thought...is that replacing the entire tank, or is there a fitting or a mounting point/plate that the vapor line mounts to that is a separate piece from the tank that attaches to the tank that needs to be replaced, and they refer to it as the "Fuel Tank Assembly"?
Yes, it's a long shot, and it would be VERY confusing if it was called that, I know...

Maybe you should remove gas cap...replace vehicle...put old gas cap back on....;) its about what they are saying...I find it hard to believe the hoses cant be replaced. I call BS on the dealership fix...theres two codes there...P0441 and P0455

I'd ask for just the hoses to be replaced.

I never would have thought a P-0441 code means the tank needs to be replaced.

I'll bet you that a dealer/service tech employee there is in need of a Tacoma gas tank and they 'found one'.

It's like when the compass/outside temp gauge goes out, $1k or so to replace the whole module, when 10 minutes and some solder will get the job done, but the dealer will not do it.

Sounds like maybe the hose needed to be replaced, someone yanked on it and cracked the tank where the male nipple would stick out for the hose to slide over. I've done it, not on a car but a mower.

Ask them if they checked the flowbehead extender valve to make sure it wasn't that too...

I'd take it to another dealer for a second opinion. Don't mention it's already been somewhere else.

I guess I can eat the words of my first response. Your dealer is a confirmed crook. I wouldn't go back there. The ultimate attempt at an up sale....

The huge pink sticker gives the scheme away.

My thought when I read the work order...are they referring to the gas tank, or some assembly that is on the gas tank?

Betting the pink sticker will be the same kind of deal they are trying to give ya on the repair..........ask them to take your truck as is and give you a new one for it complete with title.

That or I will just ask them if they can put me in a new Taco so long as I can keep the same payments I have on my current Taco.....(It's paid for).

We just dealt with a 4Runner with a similar issue, some sort of rodent had chewed through an Evap hose which was part of the sending unit which was part of the tank, only way the dealer wants to fix it is buy replacing the entire unit,
If in fact that is the case with your truck you can have the hose repaired by an indy shop, In my case the dealer had a few tanks in stock which tells me its a fairly common issue

That's funny. I think the same thing when the junk mail comes wanting my used truck and getting a new one for the same payment I currently have which = $0. Every time I go to dealer to pick up an armload of oil filters for my truck and rav4 some sales buzzard wants to swoop on down and cop a sale but walks away when I tell them I wouldn't trade you even for one.....or like the last time a few weeks back, I tell them they have a deal if they can produce a 2016 reg cab from the lot somewhere. He ran off to ask a sales mgr about that, I went on over to parts dpt. The dude scowled at me when I was leaving. I smiled. Musta been the Scion expert.

I just tell the closest dealer that I want a 2016 Inferno TRD Pro DCSB with a V-6 and a MANUAL Tranny. He usually just says "Nope, can't do it, they don't make them like that", and walks away
