Ok, sorry this took so long. Attached is the raw gps track from the trip a few weeks ago in GPX format. It includes the few detours and wrong turns we made. If anyone cleans it up it would be great if you could share it again.

The trees are turning and the trails are calling, who wants to frolic through the forest?
Holton lake? Grayling? Roscommon? Kalkaska? Manistee forest? Huron forest? St Helens scramble area?
These are all great possibilities for the weekend and I'm also thinking the trails near West Branch and Ogemaw hills that lead to Oscoda
Looking to hit the trails this Saturday and every Saturday until the trees are bare.
Let's get together and enjoy the pure Michigan beauty before the ice age!

I'm game for either the 26th or the 3rd of October. Not sure which yet. Oh and I trimmed my front mud flaps, now the back ones look too long but I don't want to lose the 4x4.

If you can only do one of those weekends and want peak color the 3rd will probably be better.
The weather forecast for the next week into the weekend is awesome so if you are getting excited just to be on the trails this weekend will be beautiful enough.
We are planning to go every weekend until the trees are bare. (I might take a trip to Carolina Oct. 9---12)

Last Saturday was great. We put in 70 off road miles on what will become a snowmobile rout (6) in just a couple more months.
The rout comes within 45 minutes drive from my house through some of our favorite trails in Roscommon just below Holton lake. It can be taken Northeast at least to South Branch (our rout last Saturday) or northwest to at least Kalkaska (our rout the week before)
The rout requires 4x4 in just a few areas mostly due to sandy up hill sections but otherwise very low on the scale of "off road"
Slightly off rout are more extreme hills, pits and trails that can be played with along the way.
The route would be considered very narrow for a full size truck however it is perfect for the Tacoma
Here are a few pics from last week's ride

How tight have the trails been lately? I'm debating bringing my tacoma up for a trip soon but I really don't want to scratch it up much. Spruce Mica shows scratches way too easily....

I have a 2004 TJ Rubicon that I am thinking might be a better rig to take out on those trails. I just hate being on the highway with it for any decent amount of time.

I am extremely protective love my new 2015 super white. I am comfortable taking my new truck on this route and happy to lead the way if other new Tacomas are coming as well.
This is my baby and I won't allow any scratching for a while yet, she is too young, beautiful and pure.
PS. I bring chainsaw and pruners just in case

Well stuff came up for this weekend and next. I can probably go out October 17th. Hopefully that won't be too late for the colors.

It's when I plan on going... I hope the color isn't too far gone by then.

The trees were mostly green with a few getting an early start this past Saturday.
We went to Gaylord and then on to Atlanta
Both trails were more bumpy than usual and Atlanta had the better hills and forest. I want to revisit Atlanta as we only did a small part of the trail due to time running short. (dark by 8)

This Saturday we are going to the St. Helens scramble area then probably east or maybe north unless we decide to go west. Its all so good and plentiful there.

The trees are showing much more color already and this weekend should be great.

I found the Jeep guys and gals at the rocks in St. Helen
Drove around the scramble area for a while then headed North on (6) then took the fork to the left at trail (9)
Went back to the scramble area then headed south on (6) all the way to Mid forest lodge / southern edge of Roscommon
It was another great Saturday on the trails putting down almost 80 of road miles

Wheeling tomorrow at St Helen scramble area and surrounding trails. Short notice, I know but if you find yourself wanting to get out of the house hit me up.

Hmm. Never seen this Michigan thread. Looks like some fun trails. Just went to rose city with dune buggies. Nice trails up there.

Is it time to plan another meet and eat trail ride?
The northern half of the lower peninsula is littered with seasonal roads.
