And this proves yet again your shortsighted insular view. You throw around calling people gay like it's an insult...It's a life style that differs from your own and that's it.

There are just as many places you can go and find straight people acting like sex crazed maniacs (Duval Street, Bourbon Street, any number of other Red Light districts that still exist but "don't exist") as you can find bastions of gayness.

And I'm pretty sure all your 4 or 5 quotes from folks in the military about being anti-gay can be contradicted by just as many who are okay with it, like me- I'm in the Coast Guard and I don't care where you want to put your junk in your off time as long as it doesn't get you arrested. Sex in barracks, onboard ship, or on duty isn't allowed for anyone...so that is no big deal.

First, I don't think civilians should have a say in this matter unless they are currently serving in the military..they don't know what's going on and half the time, they don't really care.

Second, there are gays now in the military, some may not know about it or refuse to accept it, but it's true...they may just not be open about it.

Third, I think there should be a vote throughout the military on what service members want, but we know that would ever happen and ultimately it's up to the higher brass and civilians.

yup...i'd love to see an electronic vote to all active military on this. set up a CAC enabled website that authenticated you to sign in, but keep the person's identity anonymous. i think the numbers would overwhelmingly be in the repeal favor.

There is nothing wrong with being gay- Your use of the term as a derogative/insult is the problem.

Well..It's apparent that you feel that gays/lesbians are some kind of evil who don't belong sharing air with you or your kids....so I'd say it's pretty clear you are trying to insult someone by telling them to go gay..and you did that 3 times...so yeah. You tell me why I think you are using the label gay as a insult??

and now you are taking snippets of my posts as well. i said you can have an opinion, but when the thread is asking opinions from TROOPS about the subject, you clearly do not fit the bill. there are also orders while on ships and in the AOR that deal with people having consenual sex as well...you should know that.....oh wait....

So YOUR rights matter....but the rights of homosexual individuals don't because you don't like their lifestyle choices?? Get over yourself and your homophobic view point.

Personally, I feel if anyone wants to joint the Armed Forces, and defend this country, Instant respect from me. Its not like they are joining the forces, and demanding they get to have Richard Simmons show them how to Sweat to the Oldies, or trying to redecorate the vehicles in the military. Nor do they go on a gay rape rampage. Their normal folks, who are wanting to do what they want.

yep...and you had the right to not join the service as well. same goes for yours kids too, if they are hetero the rest of their lives. these gays fought for you to have that right. what right would be infringed upon by gays in the military? you arent in to see it!

like I mentioned earlier and what jhodge said: Service members should use their CAC card and access a secure website through their AKO(Army), i'm not sure what the AF or Navy uses, but this would show the politicians and higher brass what we think and how we feel.

The media is loving this since it causes alot of drama and attention. People will run there mouth about their lifestyle and this and that, but if someone wants to serve their country and risk their life, let them. They will have to pass training and prove they have what it takes before doing anything and if the service sees that they are fit for duty..then that's it.

Alot of people in the military have an old school mentality and need to understand that alot of things in this world have changed and their is a new genre joining the military.

Some will need to adjust their leadership style to suit this, if they like it or not...especially NCOs who have been set in one type of leadership style.

I think you're referring to me.

First -- it's called sarcasm. I'd explain it to you, but I don't think you'd quite follow.

Second -- how do you know I'm not a troop? Just because I don't put an emblem under my name doesn't mean I don't serve or haven't served.

Finally -- what business is it of yours, anyway? I'm not casting my opinion about this topic in this thread. I was just making a funny observation. Which you...obviously...didn't get.....

AF has the AF portal that we go to (just like AKO). there were spots for members to post their thoughts to an anon. site on AKO and on AF portal. i'm quite sure that all brnaches have something of the sort and probably had similar things about wanting to hear from the troops.

AF already has a requirement of training dealing with homosexual issues.

all i can say is that i'm glad that i will never have the opportunity to serve next to you...anywhere.
