Some flux core welds. It's working much better now that I switched the wire over

Haha thanks man. Actually laying the bead is easy, it's knowing how to set the wire speed and heat for the thickness of the metal and the type of joint that's the hard part. But I did a lot of welding today and got a lot more comfortable with everything. Burned the hell out of pinky toe too! Some splatter landed on my shoe and burned through it and my sock and rolled in between my toes

 

that sucks man. when ever im watching my dad weld learning their r sparks that fly every where have to jump back quick cause half the time he dont tell me and goes right to it welding. haha

 

Ha damn you gotta watch that. That will tear your eyes up. Get another mask so you can get right up on it and watch the puddle and how he moves the gun

 

cant imagine that cost you much man. what do you recon you spent on it? did you just pick up the plate and the bar at a local metal place?

how much did you spend on it? id like to make one before moab


what wire did you use for the flux core? mine makes the most god aweful welds haha

 

The metal cost $82 and that was with 3 $5 cut fees and I picked it up from a local trailer shop. Not sure on the type of wire, I'll go check in a little bit though!

It's been in the basement a few years now. I think a lot of it is in the machine settings. Practicing on different thicknesses of scrap really helped me figure that out

That high clearance bumper looks enticing.. What size steel did you use?

 

It's 2"x3"x1/8" tubing, 3"x1/4" flat stock, and 1.5"x1.5"x1/8" tubing

 

Sweet! I hope you had put a bevel on atleast one side? To get full pen.

 

Most of the joints had gaps so it was burning in good. The ones that didn't have gaps I beveled the edges a bit with a grinder before welding them up. I guess we'll find out when it takes it's first hit haha

It'll prolly be a while before that happens. It's just a dd right now but I'm building it for the trail. When I get another car to drive and hopefully this house I'm looking at, I'll cut the ifs out and really get started
