Selling my 96 Tacoma to fund the FJ80 build up.
Actually installing 38's will speed up the learing curve.

You will learn what not to do much faster...

The stock IFS Tacoma front end is very under built for much beyond 33's ~ but depending on how you wheel and what you do... I know a few who have made it work.

i dont really 4x4 that hard. most of my miles are to school and back (15-20 miles a day). when i do go wheeling it just on roads like old logger roads and forest fire roads. basically my truck gets me into those hardly fish and hunted places and other than that its for looks:D

So I have 4:10 gears with a 2 pinon open diff. But what does the "2pinon" mean? I know theres the pinon gear that turns the ring gear, but whats the second pinon for?

"2 pinion" also refers to the "Side gears" "Planetary gears" etc.

6" FabTech suspension 3" body lift, 35x12.50R15 BFG AT T/A KO tires, Mickey Thompson Sidebiter wheels, 4:88 front and rear gears, e-locker, "grey wire mod," Hella driving lights retroed to 55w 8000K HIDs, custom grill, Downey chrome air intake w/ AEM filter, AirAid throttle body spacer, Flowmaster exhaust, Alpine audio w/ 12" RF sub, racing bucket seats, black powdercoated toolbox, smoked out black taillights, black headlamps and corners, red LED interior lights, sway bar removed, rear shock relocation, u-bolt flip mod, 01 center console, Relentless Fab front plate bumper, LED fog lights.
So I'm 6"s suspension lift and 3"s of body with 35" tires, and I DEFINITELY recommend regearing! The 4:56s might be good enough for ya, but I went with the 4:88s since I tend to wheel and go play in the mountains! :D My truck is the 2000 w/ 3.4L and my stock gears were the 4:10s as well. The 4:88s brought back the stock power feeling when it had OE 31x10.50s! I did the install myself, and it isn't hard as long as you know what you're doing. Setting everything right may take a couple tries of pulling rear diff apart to set and put back together, then pulling diff apart again to change shim depth and put back together, etc etc etc until you get it just right. I got all Yukon gears from Randy's Ring and Pinion... here's costs:
