Does anyone know what this noise is? It has happened about five or six times, this time I caught it on video. If the vehicle rocks backwards (from slight driveway slope) I try to correct by re-applying the gas, and it makes this gear slipping noise. It's accompanied by the slip indicator light and sometimes a louder grinding sound. It was at the dealership about a month ago and I described it to them--they told me they couldn't replicate it and they thought everything was fine. I'm not so sure. What is this?

Typical dealership “it’s normal” response... now that you have video evidence, go back to the dealership and have them try again. If they aren’t smart enough to properly diagnose the problem, call corporate, open a case, and insist on a regional tech evaluation.

Mine does that. Happens when you roll backwards. Probably designed to stop you from crashing into someone on a slope.

Hum... My driveway is on an incline, and I usually back the tuck into position. So I just went out the see what happens if I pull in forward and then roll back and go forward again. I can’t duplicate that problem (lights/sound), it just rolls backwards quietly, apply gas gently and the truck goes forward.

    Abs pulsating ?
    Will pulsate if detects slip.
    If so that's normal.

So OP and I have the offroad. I wonder if it’s model specific. I know we have the brake booster and such so perhaps it’s that??

Bingo, that makes a difference. Don’t know if it’s the root cause, but plausible.

Totally normal function! It's just the ABS pump attempting to keep you from rolling backwards.

Thanks for all the great info!

I'm hearing that this seems to be normal and tied to the brake system. However, it happens as I reapply the gas. Do we still think that is the thing or is it diff?

Mine does this as well. It should stop once you get moving forward.

    Always in process
it's part of the traction control system. 100% normal.

The truck thinks your about to roll back or have started rolling back and applies the brakes.

If i'm in a situation where I think i will happen I hit the brakes with my left foot while starting to hit the gas to eliminate any roll back
