    Few updates from yesterday:

First up was testing out the hitch extender. This will only be used for the flag mount I have :oldglory:

    F3023BB2-F65B-4DF2-9FA1-197E1219BA01.jpg

    8E68E602-5DEC-4E26-AF9F-64BFCC8705A1.jpg

Next was the fake bushwhackers. The only problem I have with them besides fitment in the rear (none of the holes line up except for two) is the fading. Removed the rear flares to paint them since, again, it's only two bolts and masked off the fronts so as not to have to remove and reinstall ~ 20 bolts:

    WHEN FIRST INSTALLED (then) :

    44C7A896-550A-4F98-857A-D45E7C2FD935.jpg

    BEFORE (present) :

    AFTER:
    AE10C1B7-C119-4FCB-8E08-41648A11214D.jpg

    Used plastidip because haters :luvya:

Next was figuring out the axle shims measurements. The digital angle finder worked great and I took down all the measurements as the thread below suggested:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/drive-shaft-vibrations-solved-step-by-step.244535/

I will have to read it again, but in the OP, I didn't see anything on how to calculate the degree of angle shim needed for your application based on the measurements you need to get. Anyone know? :notsure:

Next, I tried drilling out the stuck bolt that snapped when we installed the bumper. I'm 95% sure that the replacement bolt I ordered is the right size. Got pretty far but just stopped as I was short on time and was getting frustrated with it.

Next was installing the Rago fabrication stainless steel CB antenna mount:

    Old versus new:

    EEBFFD7B-E956-4D85-B964-37518087C4D5.jpg

Took a little massaging with a grinder due to having a camper shell. Luckily it's stainless!!

    FBB0C22F-DD98-4EF1-B294-C89D24AFB226.jpg

Needed to use some longer bolts and some spacers that needed to be removed later otherwise the tailgate would close. This brackets is beefy and more stout than the old one:

    40D4717D-4B62-4899-B7F5-CA1F36273E6E.jpg

Worked throughout the afternoon up until it was time to get ready to go to the srpint races. It was a long day and a long night.

Not sure what I'm doing today. Perhaps just relax. Might hit the range for some pew pew.

    Have a great Sunday everyone!!

It was! The weather definitely took the wind out of our sails with rain delays and it got cold. Other than that, it was great!

I was able to get some more information about the vibes I am getting around 55-60 mph. Looks like I need to remove the CB drop kit, test, and then measure the new driveline angles again and recalculate the degree shim needed.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/drive-shaft-vibrations-solved-step-by-step.244535/

CB operating angle is .8* and your rear pinion operating angle is .2*.
    Based on the math 7.5 - 6.7 = .8

    .8 - .2 = .6

No one sells a shim that size.

"part of the problem using the CB drop kit is that its increasing the operating angle of the transfer case u joint. That may be where your getting a vibe from."

So, again, remove the CB drop kit, test (maybe the vibes will be gone or even less), and then measure the new driveline angles again and recalculate the degree shim needed.

Was stalking previous posts. @KaptainH what happened with your front bumper? I know you said insurance was buying you a new one but were you able to get the old one sorted?

    Updated list:

    - Offgrid engineering side-by-side dual battery setup
    - swap wet Okole's for leather seat covers (Clazzios?; not sure how well they will hold up to dogs..)

I missed it- what are the vibes you are getting? Do you get a hum with it too? Like a cyclic hum? I started getting one after I got my truck back from the shop.. thought it was how I cut my bumper. Starts right around 58mph and only happens from about 58 to 62 mph.

Just saw your question- I ended up cutting a bunch of my bumper so it would fit. New one should be here end of June

I'm getting them in that range too. Nothing from 0-55 then it starts SLIGHTLY at 55-60mph then disappears after 60.

Damn do you have pics? I was curious how it looks now.

Pieced together a "DIY" dual battery setup (minus the batteries)

The CEO of Off-Grid Engineering emailed me back stating that they are not sure they are going to continue making their side-by-side kit. Not a problem when my pieced together kit is roughly half or less the cost (again, without batteries):

I want to keep the dual battery setup clean. The point is to throw every piece of auxiliary equipment onto the aux battery and have a "main" to start and run the truck. This should accomplish that nicely. Plus, everything is already run to the stock battery location. This will make the conversion MUCH simpler and painless.

Banned..don't come here with that shit. (kidding)

Got to work extra early to setup the tech system for a breakfast conference this morning. Smelled sooo good. Best part is, we don't get to touch any of it..like Jimmy John's free smells. FML

So- I was reading about drive line vibrations and harmonic hums (guitar string comparison) and thinking definitely what the issue is.. why it started now all of a sudden I'm not sure. Gonna measure some angles but it sounds like the link you posted requires you to just play with washers until it's fixed. My question is--- what happens if I just let it ride? What goes bad if anything?

I am not sure that the carrier bearing makes the difference here. I have the OME CB drop kit and still have that vibration.

I plan to remove it completely and test again. If I still get the vibes, I will remeasure and recalculate. After that, I will install the axle shim and test again. Based on what I have heard, the CB drop kit does nothing. The shim kit is the answer (potentially).

It's important to treat yo'self..go my basic bitch white girl shit in a cup today. +2 that they actually spelled my name correctly this week..

Aye- I have the OME CB drop kit too. Well test it out and let me know!
