Well i found out how to make a kill switch for out trucks. I have a 2nd gen so i dont know if it will work on a 1st gen. I found it by complete accident but has turned out pretty cool. In case you park in sketchy areas, well heres one more thing to secure your truck.

First Buy a 2nd gen tacoma of your choice.

    Step one.
If you have a non working dealer alarm system....remove it. its annoying anyways.

There are lots of wire splices that just pop off if they are pulled. And there are two wires you have to cut. THIS is your ignition wire (sorry i didnt get a pic) so make sure you leave extra.

    With it removed

    Step two
Freak out and think your starter is gone, push it pop the clutch and drive it to a dealer. Then pay $105 to have them tell you that the ignition wire is cut and that it will be another 100 to fix

OR Follow step 3 (this is where you would start if you dont have the stupid alarm thing)
Locate and remove the change holder, gun holder, knife holder, whatever you want to call it
    [IMG]

    Step 4
In the cluster of wires there is a green wire with a black stripe. This is your ignition wire. To to this mod you have to cut it, if you dont feel comfortable, then dont. (for those with the alarm that was removed you had to cut two orange wires. these are attached to your ignition wires,by a butt splice.

    Step 5
Attach a butt splice to the wire if it is two short, adding exra wire in order to get a female crimp connector to it. The ones without the alarm might have enough slack you can skip this step.

Step 6, repeat step 5 for the other wire.

Step 7, Attach a switch to the two wires. I used one i just had laying around, so i have to push the button in order to start the truck. I will change it later. You can use just and regular switch and turn it off and on when you want.

If you are using a regular switch then congrats your done! Just put everything back together. But if your like me and you use the push button switch then there are two more steps.

    Step 8
Drill a hole in the back of the change holder.

    Step 9
Put the switch in the hole, Test it, put everything back together

Im going to get comments on how bad my blue switches are haha. I know, i was in a hurry, and ill but new ones some day

I should probably add that I'm not responsible if you screw up your truck. So please do not screw up your truck! Do it at your own risk

Good one. Similar to how we wire up our police cars. They have a button in the area of the pedals that needs to be depressed before you can shift gears and get the car going. Speaking of those switches, what did you wire them to?

If I read the wiring diagram for the starting circuit correctly, you have interrupted the signal that goes from the ignition switch (ST2) to the starter relay (Pin 5). This would definitely server as a kill switch. Nice!

You guys that have an automatic trans should seriously consider putting your switch inline with the brake pedal interlock.

That way the truck will start, but won't go into gear.

My boss blew the brake light fuse on his 05 4cyl auto due to bad wiring job for his camper shell brake light. He was stranded. He called me for ideas on how to get the trans out of park. Had he been a thief he probably would have just given up.

Plus, if you hear your truck start up, then you can run outside with weapon of your choice. :laser: The dumbass thief will be a sitting duck. With a starter kill there is less noise and therefore more time for a thief to look for your switch.
