Yes, I know the Gen 2 Tacos are much improved, but they're also much more expensive. Used ones (V6 Double Cab 4x4) under 75k miles are going for $24K in my area.

But I can find V6 Double Cab 4x4 Gen 1's for under $15k. Are Gen 2's worth the difference?

    Both are great trucks.

All the first gen guys are gonna tell you to buy a first gen for such and such reason while the second gen guys are gonna chime in here and do the same.

As Zach stated, do some research and find out what you want most.

i do not know since i dont drive a 1st gen but a lot of guys say those are a lot better built and stronger than the 2nd.
having said that i love my 2nd and i think its really solid. but it also only has 6K miles on it haha

If you want a bigger, more powerful truck, go with the second gen.

    1st gen have proven reliability.

I got a 2nd gen because I'm 6"3 and 240lbs, really needed the extra room. No regrets, I love my truck. I think the 1st gen has a better looking exterior though.

If I were in your position, I'd go 1st gen (price difference being the major issue), but ONLY after thoroughly checking the frame.

My neighbor has a first gen and I LOVE the way that thing looks. It's lasted him forever (not sure what year it is) and still looks new. He hasn't complained of any real issues with it at all.

Another note: Aren't 1st gens the ones that you see driving across the desert with a rocket launcher in the back? There's a reason for that, I would presume....

    ;)

Thanks. More room and larger are not on my priority list. Those are points for Gen 1. I need smaller and more compact. Limited parking room for a truck.

Soooooo, other than being larger, the motor is the main advantage to a Gen 2? Why is the motor better? More power, more reliable? What?
