Yeah I found that out with my Lincoln hd180 from home depot. Nice to know about hobart though I was looking at one today at our local welding supply company. Think I'm going for the diversion 180 and the millermatic 211. I unfortunatly went to wyotech only good thing I learned was welding lol 28 years old and been sitting at a desk job for over 2 years on cad is killing me time to start building shit again.

I have a northern tool 135 mig that I got after my Lincoln got stolen. I got the Northern tool one after reading many reviews and talking to a friend that rebuilds welders saying it has the same guts as the big guys. I like it so far and its $200 less then a MM or the Lincoln

I bought a millermatic 211 about a year ago. Great welder in my opinion.

Also look into the thermal dynamics 181i. I have been looking around a lot and that one caught my eye. Its a 180 amp machine but its multi process so it can mig/stick/tig and in the $800's

My school shop has the JD2 model 3. Works well for what we use it for.

With the JMR you don't even use the anti spring back with the air over hydro kit I don't know about the others.

If you go with JD2 id go for the 32 it can bend thicker wall tube.

I have most of the drill bits and the some 1/2 plate already I doubt I'll spend nearly that much. Plus I'll get REM steel

    Hey guys quick question.

Would it be even remotely possible to bend a piece of 1.75" OD .120 wall round tube in a 2" die on a JD2 Model 3 bender? I just need 45* max.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, just not sure how bad it would be.

Ive heard of guys bending a piece of 2", then cutting it down the center to make a sleeve for the die. Only problem is we don't have any 2" scrap and Im not going to buy a bunch of it just for this one job.

I guess I could live with that, It's just going to be for bending the outer rail for a set of sliders. Maybe I can get away with about 30* to minimize the flattening.

It flattens pretty bad. I tried it once before buying my 1.75 die and it flattened the tube to like 1/2 the regular diameter.

why not just hit up someone with a bender and kick them a few dollars? i know people ask me to do some bends for them and alls i ask is a 12 pack and the cost of material.... dont make your truck look like shit with half assed flattened out bends and shit. do it right and make it clean.

Thanks guys. Im going to try and find someone with a 1.75" die, but I live in a tiny town and Im fairly sure the only bender here is at our school shop

We do have a 1.5" die, I could just use 1.5" tube for the outer rails of the sliders.

look for someone close by to you on here as well. i will throw out the offer to bend some tube up for you but the cost of shipping would make the whole point moot. if you cant find anyone close by, hit me up. if you pay for materials and shipping and a 12'er of pacifico, i got ya. haha
