I always tell guys who think prices are high on stuff to go look at parts for an 80 series and let me know what you think then. lol Compared to alot of other models the Tacomas are very cheap to buy for.

Yeah you guys are fabricators too. For a recreational use...it does the job. If I welded daily, or even monthly, I'd buy a good one.

Very true for just a little mig welding it's fine but your fabricating or tig welding it's not great.

My welds are starting to get better. Welding with a 110v gasless MIG.

I've never used a nice one. I do prefer the solid shades for mig though since there really is no need for an auto. Just stick the wire where you want it, put the hood down and go:)

if that happens you need to step to the next shade up. if your using a solid shade, invest in gold tinted lenses, if your welding with an auto, try to look for a "blue screen" auto. they are difficult to locate but the arc appears a bright blue instead of a green, much easier on my eyes from what ive noticed. i could sit at the bench of my old job and throw welds out all day without even a trace of welders eye.

10 is my normal shade as well. 9 is a bit light for long term welding (in my opinion).

9 seems to work better for awkward angles when I can't get my big head in close enough lol

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

Now toss those arbor plates and buy some real plate steel ones. I have these and they are way better http://www.battlementfab.com/Arbor-Plates_p_59.html
I use the HF ones to weight down the thin sheet on the Plasma table.

    Those are nice.

For using the press brake, would a solid row of bricks be better?

NO!!! they will shatter just like those HF arbor plates if you put too much pressure on them.
