I just acquired a seventies? or eighties? version of the "one shot" pro tools bender with a couple dies for an unreal price of free fifty free. It's only missing the support bar and I was wondering if anyone that owns one could give me the specks on said piece, that would be awesome, thanks.

Can you do a air/over hydro conversion?

I did it for my jd2 bender. It makes bending 2" DOM a breeze

I figured out the size of the support bar that was missing and replaced it. The machine itself is already Hydraulic, an older version of this model. Works great on the few pieces of DOM that I had laying around, angles are a bit limited but can't complain with free. ;)

I'm building a swing out tire carrier for my rear bumper. I was wondering what wall thickness I should go for on the main swing arm. I'm using this bushing (3" version) for the hinge, and making it a double sheer mount to the bumper (CBI Bushmaster 2.0).

The swing out will hold my spare tire (33" KM2 on stock steel rim), 5 gallons gas, a fold down table on the back-side, and a rack for 2 bikes.

With all that weight, I want to avoid flexing, without going overboard and adding excess weight.

I have a tubing bender, so round and square tube designs are possible.

Let me know what you think.

    Thanks.

If I were you, I would forget about using the bushing pivot, and jump on ruffstuff.com and get a bearing unit. There $80, it's about as cheap as I have found since I used these quite often in my builds. What's a spare tire, gas can and the table it's going to be a decent amount of weight. You're going to get Flex out of the bushings that you will not get out of the bearing unit.

Scratch that. I see that you're using the CBI bumper, that doesn't leave a lot of room to install the bearing spindle for the tire swing out.

Having the bike rack on the swing out has proven to be a bad idea for a few other folks that have tried it. Just the gate with everything on it that you described is going to flex quite a bit going down the road ...not to mention off road...then add the weight of a bike rack...faghettaboutit..with that swing out open your frame will twist like wet pretzel and just drivin down the road the amount of flex will undoubtedly lead to a fatigue failure.

Sorry I don't have a picture of it on the truck but you can simply build your own stand off tube for the bike rack and use the high clearance hitch receiver in your CBi bumper. I have the same bumper and that's what I did. You just use a long straight piece of square tubing and move your bike racks hinge or pivot onto it. Depending on the brand of rack you may have to put a slight downward S bend in the tube. That will put the rack far enough behind the spare tire that your bikes will fit and low enough that the swing gate will clear it when it is folded down. This way your bike rack is still a removable part and puts no extra strain on the swing out.

Here is the custom mount I made for my Yakima rack, my MTB's with uncut 30" bars clear my 35" spare and the swing out clears it when it is folded flat :

Okay. I'll probably end up making the bike rack plug into the hitch of the bumper and put a couple joints on it so it swings out opposite of the tire. I wasn't sure if having a tire, gas, table and MTB rack would be too much weight.

I'll scoot the tire closer to the passenger side (where the hinge will be) to reduce strain when its open.

Some swing outs angle the tire slightly upwards, and others don't. Is there an advantage of one over the other?

As far as tubing. What is the norm? 2x2, 0.120 wall?

Regarding the swing out, looking for input on something like this. Instead of using the bushing style, why can't you get away with a heim joint.

    Something like this

    IMG_2080_0a9d8ef54ae107560ad276adef5e4ec9b4579209.jpg

Or would something like this be better. Kinda gets rid of the bushing and uses a bolt and baring.

I'm having the same issue of having an exsisting bumper and not being able to mount the spindle without a lot of clearancing. Figured weld one of these onto the corners and go from there. Any tips/criticism would be appreciated.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
I'm running that Comp4x4 mount on my trailer BBQ swing out and it's rock solid! i wouldn't use bushings on a swing out.

I use those comp 4x4 spindles on my bumpers, though lately I've had issues with them(company, not product). They've been nearly impossible to contact, until threatening to file disputes over my $600 order not shipping in their 2-3 days quoted. Last order I waited 3 weeks calling every other day after a week past, then daily after that before I finally got a shipping confirmation.
I've since decided to have a local machine shop turn me down the sleeves and I've found order sources for the bearings and such, so I'll have a batch of 50 something spindle assemblies in a couple weeks if anyone needs one
