Was driving to work yesterday and noticed a Tacoma (stock Sport 4x4, basically same as me) and waved just as I do to every other Tacoma I see on the road. He gave me a dirty stare and didn't wave or anything back. I felt sad.

This got me pondering, which leads me to the given question: Do you feel as though your masculinity is challenged when you see a woman driving the same car as you? Or do you feel happy/excited/etc?

    I'm curious about this

I didn’t know driving a Tacoma was masculine in the first place...it’s a baby truck most commonly used by owners for getting groceries. I don’t feel excited or challenged, I don’t care what someone else is driving.

I drove a ProbeGT for years, then a MX5 for years, then a RX8, and now a CooperS. ONLY women drive the cars I like. :) Makes sense; i like women - it's nice when they like my cars.

I'm willing to bet thats not a dirty stare, that was him thinking "Do I know you?" Taco owners tend not to wave at each other.

I've waved to most that I see and usually get a little peace sign or wave back. This was a lil different.. but to each their own!

@ohnohbabywhatisudoin If he gets his panties in a bunch because he sees you waving from a Tacoma like his, he’s got bigger issues.

In the meantime thanks for being friendly. I always appreciate a wave.

Agreed, the wave doesn’t seem to be as common in the Tacoma community as it is in the Jeep world.

When I had my Tacomas, I didn’t wave, no offense intended. Sorry.

Waving is stupid. I don't need strangers to validate my purchase.

Fuck that douche! I personally think it's kinda attractive and sexy when I see a female driving a truck.

I used to be a jeep guy so I'm used to the whole waving thing but most taco owners never acknowledge each other so I don't ever bother to even make eye contact. Don't take it personal, I'd gladly wave back to you

Masculinity being challenged? Not sure how gender is related to the person not waving back. Seems more like a grumpy or confused person that didn't want to wave back or didn't understand why you were waving at them, and they would have responded the same way to anyone waving at them.

Personally, if I see a person waving and think quickly enough to wave back, I always wave back - especially if they're a fellow Tacoma driver.

Side note. I used to drive through a very rural part of Oklahoma every weekend going back and forth between college and my parents' house. It was roughly 70 miles of lightly traveled roads, and I probably passed less than 10 cars along the way. I waved at EVERY person along the way, and took notes about who would wave back at me. A few trends emerged.

Men driving trucks waved back approx. 95% of the time. (Men wearing cowboy hats driving 1-ton flatbeds waved back 100% of the time)
Men driving cars waved back less than 25% of the time.

Women driving trucks waved back exactly 50% of the time (sample size = 2)
Women driving cars waved back exactly 0% of the time

I also had wildly different results depending on what I was driving.
People were FAR more likely to wave at me when I drove my Jeep Wrangler, and far less likely to wave at me when I drove my mom's Honda Civic.

I’ll always wave back, after driving a Jeep for years I got used to that habit. But I don’t usually initiate in the Tacoma, too scared of rejection :D

Nope! You definitely don't. Some people like to acknowledge those in a similar community as theirs tho, hence why I think Tacomaworld was created. Thanks for your input!
