I've been considering building a PC to get back into the gaming world. I stopped playing on the Xbox around 2014 and since then I have had the hardest time just staying interested in which ever game I am play. I would like to know if anyone else has this issue and if they either moved past it or just gave up and found another hobby.

You’re not married are you John. I say this as a statement because of you where you wouldn’t be able to play enough to ever get bored.

Well, you're on TW, right? I added at least one zero to my spending when I changed my hobby to Tacomas.

    I found other hobbies.
Haven’t been into gaming since 2007.

As for the other hobbies, I’ve had many, some I’ve stuck with, other I haven’t.

I just ordered a remote starter, new fog lights, and sequential turn signals. With the winter coming and not having a garage I don't plan on spending much time on it until it warms up again. I've just been reading posts and keeping a list of what I want to add next or what to avoid.

    Been there.
I have a bunch of older consoles, original NES, Sega geniuses, N64, PS2, Wii, Xbox 1, gameboy colors, game gears. I phase in and out over the past 20+ years. Got into guitar, Harley’s, now trucks, fitting in gym time and wife.
Life happens. Okay to have a lot of hobbies. I just pick and choose at the time of my choosing and it changes often

I love riding motorcycles but when I moved to Upstate New York I sold my ZX10R because the roads up here are just so bad. I've been debating getting something a little more comfortable to ride but that will have to wait till I move back west.

I am interested to see what ends up happening with the truck I just got. I've spent a lot of time just reading the different post on here to see what things work and what doesn't. Its pretty fucking neat to see how some peoples projects turn out.

I still PC game(always have, never console), its still fun, but not as much addictive fun as it used to be. All the games are all politically correct, you can't talk smack/cuss in the in-game chats....but the graphics just keep getting more amazing by the day. The other major difference you will find is the the daily/weekly rewards most games have to keep you hooked. They have certain tasks/assignments to complete in game...and you get in game rewards when you do....so as my buddy says...its just like work...you have grind each day/week to earn your loot/swag. It really makes it fun. All the major games now have expansion packs, so you can play the same game for about 2 years and never gets old.

Its good hobby to un-wind at the end of the day & forget about work, gets your adrenaline pumping. I usually play about an hour a-day, but on a cold rainy day I can stay in and play for hours. Back in the early days, yes, I could get hook into a game of command & conquer and once played 8 hours straight into the night. But not anymore

If it is what you find fun, then do it. I don't watch any sports or much tv, so this is my indoor hobby. Otherwise I do yard work, or work on cars.
I will say this, every girl past & present have said that me gaming is great.....they know exactly where I am afterwork/ every evening, I am not out in a bar wasting money on booze or talking with girls. (that seems to be the majority problem with her friend's significant others: drinking/cheating) Nor am I wasting the entire weekend drinking in front of the TV watching sports. If your girl won't let you enjoy a harmless, relatively cheap hobby for a few hours a week, then there are other issues in her or your relationship.

My major Games have been: Battlefield, Borderlands, Fallout. Few other shooters & strategy and minor games in between new releases. Just got done playhing BF2042

If you do get back into building ...Just get a RTX 3080ti or higher....that is what you need to max our your settings and still have 60fps+....spend the extra for that upfront, you will enjoy your games more and future proof yourself for years to come. GPU are easy to come by now that etherum mining has ended. They are on sale now!

Good luck and have fun, you only get one life...enjoy it.

I think saying an indoor hobby is the best way of putting it. Days where the weather is nice is nice this is never an issue but when it turns then I gotta find something to pass the time.

I appreciate the advice on the 3080ti because I was considering a 3070, so I will make sure to step up on that.

Its cause the 3080ti has 12g of memory. which makes all the difference
I had a 3070 and the difference is night and day. my 3070 ran at 99% utilization and only had 45fps in 4k. the 3080ti (FE) runs at 48% utilization at 60fps...and runs much cooler and obviously smoother...for a much better experience.
from what I read the 3080ti is the best bang for your buck. The 3090 only runs slightly better but at a significant cost, and 3090ti has 24g which is currently overkill for games and is really only truly beneficial for design/engineering work. Of course if you can score one of the new 4090s that just came out...they operate 4x better than a 3090.
Keep in mind all these new GPUs need big power supply...I would go with anything less that 1000w for future proofing. You can get by on a 750/800w.

I grew up on 8 bits, have never not had a console in my possession since my parents brought home the Sears (Atari) 2600. Currently I'm on an older X-Bone that has become little more than my Netflix machine.

It's not that I ever made the decision to stop playing, but instead I'm finding fewer and fewer games to be all that appealing. The last one I played (outer worlds) I finished more from obligation than enjoyment. It's been several years since I truly enjoyed a title start to finish (Red Dead) and maybe a couple of years since I found a few enjoyable moments in an otherwise blind-grind (Borderlands 3).

It's cool, I have plenty of hobbies both indoors and out.

Point being, if you are feeling the fade away, don't fight it, and don't mourn for the loss. You'll wind up burning yourself out all the faster. There are other worlds than these to explore and enjoy.

I also have RTX 3080ti, and still very satisfied with it.

And to the OP - You can try to find other hobbies. I used to be so into gaming, but now I have other interests and not that much time for playing. But I still have a PC with games, and when I want, I just go and play and have a good time

Still game on PC. Diablo 4 just came out recently and I play a lot of that.

But also have other hobbies, maybe find something else?

Hobbies that live in the shed currently; firearms, many custom built for ELR, NODs for night shoots, reloading gear.

Hoobies currently partaking in; welding & fabrication, CNC plasma work, lock picking, baking.

Then again I'm retired so lots of free time here.

Most of the time just spent with my little guy -

    20230610_195632.jpg

Should also mention wheeling but only when time permits (our baby is only 2 months old).
