Ok some of you will think this is stupid.
I just need to know quickly the odds of problems after a tune??
You guys had to of heard either way of any things that come up or keep
coming up? The Tuning Service Liability Agreement really gets you thinking.'
I have to let him know tonight for Saturday. So I'd appreciate any input.
    Thanks.

Chances are slim to none. In my opinion.

Depends on the tune. The more popular ones like OTT or KDMax have been "proven" by thousands of people, so they're less likely to cause problems. A homebrew tune done by someone who doesn't know what he's doing can destroy your engine and/or transmission.

You should also ask the tuner what contingency he has in place if problems develop during the write process e.g. his laptop accidentally falls from the seat and bricks your ECM. Does he have a spare ECM to swap in to avoid leaving you stranded?

Had OV, and now OTT. Never had any problems.

I’ve also flashed VQ motors with Uprev, and mustangs with SCT and HPtuners. No problems.

Of ALL things, the most important thing to do is to ensure your battery is fully charged, or, tended, while flashing. Not having enough “juice” is a big no-no when flashing an ECU - that’s when you have a high chance of bricking the damn thing

My truck has been tuned for about a year and a half. I have the KDMax tune and I love it. Best money I’ve spent on the truck.

Not a single complaint/issue with engine/transmission reliability wise after the tune. It’s been about 6 years since the OG tunes came out.

If anything, my engine runs smoother, starts better, has more power throughout RPM range and gets better than stock MPGs.

Tune your truck and enjoy your life.

I have flash my truck hundreds of times, from original OV to 2.0, through all the KDMax tunes, including the latest v10, with no issues at all. My truck has been tuned in one way shape or form, since january of 2020. our society is litigious hence the liability waiver, it is your risk, and you assume that. in reality, it is just a formality. you have to decide what is right for you.

also, there is a whole form with like minded people just for tuning, some are tuners, some are testers, some are users. newbies, and well established members. you can get all your questions answered there. https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/performance-and-tuning.8/

good luck, enjoy your tune. Ski

Its the Overland Torque Tune. I read the Tuning Service Liability Agreement and just freaked me out. Its a long thing that talks about everything in the world that could go wrong.
Thanks though. I'll probably do it.

I had 1,400 miles on mine when it tuned, last month, with OTT & its beyond my expectations.
I've also tuned several new motorcycles with ZERO issues
    Definitely best money spent
    just do it

Can't speak for the tacoma yet, but I ordered the vf tuner cable before even getting the truck as I am a firm believer in tuning whenever possible, cars and bikes. I only had 27 miles on my Yamaha when I got that tuned and also have a tuned Subaru, and that is just the current lineup. All vehicles are factory tuned with emissions and noise regulation as top priority, and in a lot of cases limits achieving full throttle regardless of your input. If you ever see a video of a tuner breaking down what limits are set from the factory it will help see what they are really doing as well as how much the factory tune neuters the engine output.

Excellent point about manufacturer limitations, if more people knew whats possible when the ECU is cracked open & the vehicle is FREE to perform at optimum levels, tuning would be more common practice

If you’re getting a well-known tune, installed by a reputable tuner, you can rest easy. I’ve not heard of any issues.

No tuner that I know of (and I was one until recently) keeps a stock of spare ECMs for different model and year vehicles. IMHO that would be an unrealistic expectation. 3rd gen Tacomas are pretty bullet proof as far as VFTuner is concerned.

It's very very infrequent, but it does happen when something unexpected occurs, like forgetting to turn off Windows update and the laptop starts to update the OS in the middle of a flash, the OBDII cable accidentally disconnects in the middle of the flash, or doing the flash without the truck battery connected to a constant power source. A reputable tuner can mitigate those risks by following a set process on every tune. And despite the waiver form, no tuner I know of is going to abandon you if something goes wrong. It may be inconvenient but they will make it right. I carried business liability insurance for just such a possibility.

My vf tuner cable arrived today along with the news that my truck arrived at the dealership, talk about a great day. I plan to get a feel for the truck in stock form for a week or two then flashing in the KD MAX tune so I can actually tell the difference just to appease my own curiosity. I am certain I will be happy with the end results.
