How many months has it been? Well I suppose it's a good thing that both companies detected the problem quickly so the affected vehicle batch sizes are small.

Recall Alert: 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500
    by Mike Levine | December 23, 2010

General Motors is recalling 1,262 Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 light-duty pickups from the 2011 model year to fix a potential problem with the rear axle.

The rear axle cross pin bolt in these trucks wasn't properly heat-treated during manufacturing, and it could fracture while driving. If this happens, the bolt could become free inside the axle, causing the rear axle and wheels to lock up without warning. The driver might not be able to control the vehicle, and a crash could occur. The driver may also hear a banging noise coming from inside the rear axle.

To fix the problem, GM dealers will install a new rear axle cross pin in the trucks. The recall is expected to begin next month. Owners with questions or concerns can contact Chevrolet at 800-630-2438, GMC at 866-996-9463 and GM's owner center at http://www.gmownercenter.com.

Recall Alert: 2011 Ford F-Series, Edge, Lincoln MKX

Ford is recalling 14,737 F-Series pickup trucks and Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from the 2011 model year because of a defect in the body control module, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects 2011 F-150 pickups built between Nov. 3 and Nov. 20; 2011 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 pickups built between Oct. 28 and Nov. 19; and 2011 Edge and MKX crossovers built between Oct. 25 and Nov. 3. You can check your car’s manufacture date on the sticker inside the driver-side doorjamb.

In the affected vehicles, an electrical short may develop in the body control module and cause a fire.

Ford will start notifying owners Jan. 10. Dealers will replace the body control module if necessary for free. For more info, owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332 or NHTSA’s hot line at 888-327-4236.
