well everyone was right, i kinda had the same feeling but if its a free inspection i figure may as well go do it. this is what i was told, "there is nothing wrong with that amount of rust, ALL OF THE TRUCKS are coming in like that, and no toyota is not doing anything about it." then the guy said be thankful i dont have a chrome bumper or that would be rusted out too. so it sounds like they are aware that everything is coming in rusted, but dont see it as a problem.

i dunno, i really dont want to have problems down the line. ya, its nasty surface rust now but what about later on down teh road? im going to attempt to recoat the frame again, and some of the components, but i cant get to every spot, which means it will just rust on thru again. i may look into trading this in on something else, and start from scratch

Thanks for letting us know. If that were my truck I'd trade it away.

Por 15 will be your best friend. It is by far the best coating I've ever used. Just paint it right on over the rust. Once cured it takes pretyy much a grinder to get it off

I guess the Nissans rust just as bad as the Toyotas. Maybe it's really the salt on the roads and not poor quality frames after all. Funny how the guy with the Nissan is proud that his truck is in that condition and Toyota guys are so pissed if their truck is showing that amount of rust.

The "all of the trucks are coming in like that" answer is complete bullshit, especially after the rust buybacks of the previous generation. Using their logic, any retail product where everybody complains of issues is just "normal".

I wish my truck only had that amount of rust that was on the Nissan. I've been wire wheeling, sandblasting, repainting and rust proofing my truck annually and mine has way more rust than that every spring...

chassis saver is not por 15, lol. Trust por 15 is hardcore. Do not get it on any clothes you like, it'll never ever come off. Do not get it on your skin, it'll stay on your skin till your body naturally sheds a few layers.

I put some on my first car (78 firebird rust bucket) i had some onthe door sills and the body shop couldn't sand it off, they had to use a wire wheel.

i know you can do both, i was just wondering from someone who actually applied the product which method they used. i want to see if its easier to spray or to use a brush. i know from using the chassis saver with a brush, i found it kind of difficult to get to some places, however with a spray gun i think there would be overspray everywhere

It works fine if you have it on a lift. Otherwise it's a pain in the ass. I can't see how you could get it on fast enough with a brush. It's time sensitive. You may have to use a brush on some spots. You'll probably have to drape your exhaust.

I'll have to throw some pics of mine up. Rustproofed right off the lot, touched up every year 2years old and NO rust looks like new. Hardley every power washed in winter...salt everyday, put the good stuff on and forget about it. Don't do shit and it rusts, WTF do you expect?

as i said before, as soon as i got the truck in my possession i applied my frame coat and did what i could. i cant help it if the original owner was an ass and did nothing. in the winter, i did rinse off all the parts i could reach.

i may have to try POR, i dont have access to a lift so it may be interesting.

for those of you that used the POR product, did you topcoat with anything?

Its mostly because of PENN DOT!! I used to live in PA for 21 years, WV for 3 and and now live in DE for 5. I have owned 3 tacomas and not one looked that bad, why???every summer I spent about 15 bucks and a good 3 hours wirebrushing it and spraying them down with rust o lem. my 2004 fx4 f150 had a rusty bedside in 3 years after living in PA. Ford replaced it and I sprayed everything else. PA is bad about using liquid salt brin and if you dont wash it off bi weekly it will jack your crap up. Yeah, your truck is bad, most of its surface especially on cast parts!! they come uncoated 99% of the time. Have you ever got under the truck with a pressure washer and re sprayed? With 2 of my Tacos they were bought back beacuse of the "frame issue", but only because of VIN, not because of rust. If you take extra care, the yota will last.
Sand it down and paint it.

i just thought of something, i know POR can be painted directly over ruse with some prep work..since i already used the chassis saver tho am i gonna have to scrape all that off and then apply the POR and the prep products?

Probably. It's peeling anyway. Maybe a pressure washer can blast it off.
