Is there any merit in moving from the stock E-locker on the TRD OR to say an ARB Air locker?

What are people doing for front lockers on the 3rd gen?

    Thanks!

If isn't broke, don't bother with it. Spend the money on other upgrades.

The only real benefit of going to an air locker over the stock one would be the ability to use it any time, not only when in 4-Lo.

Get the front locker ftmfw, but honestly unless your rock crawling some gnarly grades and going all out the rear locker should be sufficient.

I'd probably look into one of those e-lockers since the back is electric. I wouldn't be opposed to air though.

It would be down the list of upgrades though.

And if OP does the anytime locker mod, this benefit disappears.

I didn't think that was working for the 3rd gen yet.

Would you have to swap out the whole rear axel to do do something like this? from looking at the Stock one, doesnt seem like you can easily access the gears. Say like with a sweet cap and whatnot.

Front lockers make a huge difference. I ran a LSD in the rear and a full selectable locker in the front of my Jeep. The front locker had the motor weight above it and therefore when I locked it it grabbed like a mofo. Guys with $30g's in custom Currie axles couldn't believe I was going everywhere they were. It was due to the front locker and knowing how to drive it.

I was a big fan of the OX but it doesn't work with 3rd member axles due to the actuator being in the OX cover. Second choice would be an ARB.

Does any company even make aftermarket axles for the tacoma? Suppose you could get rid of the drum brakes at the same time.

The Tacoma is like a Ford 9" axle in that the pinion and gears come out in a third member from the front of the axle.

    There is no diff cover.

Does anyone make an aftermark full axle for the tacoma? Like say to get rid of drum's and be just generally gnarly.

There are a ton of axles for Toyota. Pretty much all custom huge dollar. Currie will empty your wallet and make something just for you.

There is no such thing as a Toyota or Jeep or ford axle in the world of off road. I had a Ford 8.8 in my Jeep out of an explorer. A friend had a Ford 9" in his Jeep and a custom 9" up front modified from a rear axle. Had knuckles welded on and custom axle shafts. So Dana may make the OEM or in the past I think ford made their own. You find what dimensions work for you and make it fit. The other option is places like Currie that can make anything you want based on say a Dana 60 or Ford 9".

Stick an aftermarket axle under the truck. You can have anything you want then.
