The rear locker in my 16 off road is a pain to get it to engage. Half the time it just blinks and I have to drive back and forth a ton. Seems it should be a little easier to get it to engage.

the e-locker is finicky to engage, but don't think ARB makes an air locker that fits in TRDOR. TRD sports, yes. But I think you need a new housing when I remember looking at their site.

I just went to an ARB front and rear locker set up. I ended up regearing while I was in there as the labor is essentially the same. If I already had the rear E locker... I dont think if I would have done the gears or the front locker but I am glad that I have it now as, a previous poster mentioned, having that front will benefit you in your ability to get around...

Most people will never need the front and I will prob only "need" it a hand full of times but If youre gonna regear and do the rear.... might as well do the whole thing cause youll be paying twice as much if you decide you wanna do it later.

Also keep in mind that if you move to an Air locker.. you have to buy a compressor and that adds cost to the job. essp if you cant install it yourself.

I have read some reviews that show how E lockers actuate and when you engage they need to be rolling to fully lock the ball barings in place. So I think your truck is normal, although its prob frustrating to lock it when you need it

You mind giving me a ballpark in price?? I'd get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing I had two lockers! Does the 4.88 gear ratio push you along any better?

I don't EVER remember having to change drum pads. Anyone? not saying they are great, but I just can't recall. I think I've had 400k+ on 3 different vehicles with rear drums. that's at least one upside. sort of.

If you've NEVER had to replace rear drum shoes, your brakes were never properly adjusted and you never used them for anything other than parking.

I'm going to install front and rear arb lockers in 2 weeks because i bought a sport. Lockers anytime  also It's gonna be nice to have the air compressor on board as well. But if I had an e locker with A-trac I wouldn't bother swapping anything, I would only get a compressor.

4.88 does help.. low end. limits your highway driving to around 65/70 mph or youll be running around 12mpg..

If you find a shop and do the master kits with both lockers and gears youre looking at 4/5k

Looks like it went 3 years without anyone getting around to answering your question. As best I can tell, I am guessing they are referring to this thread

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/locker-anytime-mod-for-dummies-2005.353724/

Personally I would like to do front and rear Air Lockers on my "new" 2018 TRD off road, but as it appears the e-locker is tied into the traction control system, I am more than a might nervous about the idea.

Locker anytime mod is not working on any 3rd gens yet.

Next time, turn to the right or left as you’re going forward. It’ll align things much faster since the outer wheel will more more than the inner wheel.

    good to know
do we know if pulling the e-locker to replace it with an air locker has any adverse effect on the traction control system?

replacing the front and rear diff and regearing are really the biggest mod I have planed for my truck, but it has the tech package and all the TRD Off Road traction control systems... I like that toyota tried to help with the e-locker, but I feel it falls short, but with everything tied into computers, it makes life difficult making changes to some systems.

No adverse effects on the traction control system. The system only reacts to the locker when it actually locks so no real difference than installing an aftermarket locker in a non-locker equipped truck or installing a front locker in an OR.

It will cause the system check at start up to throw an error so you need to simulate the existence of the locker across the factory power wires once removed.

I'm really excited to see what you came up with for the anytime locker. That is something I really wish I had.
