going to a junk yard

anyone ever gone to a junk yard and found some cool stuff for our trucks? i wanna go check one out soon since ive never been to one but i wanted to know what kind of experiences u guys have had.

 

i dont know what you have around but i have about 5 in my area and only 1 had a 1st gen taco in it. prob cause theyre so damn tough

but i really wish i had a bunch of them. id go everyday to see what crap i could find.


dont expect rock bottom prices though. i called looking for front bucket seats and the only ones they had were $300 a seat. ive seen pairs on ebay for that much
i guess they have to make a profit too

and last thing, dont expect to finds pairs of anything because usually there was a huge impact on one side that pretty much destroys everything on that side. so for example, one mirror might be fine, but the other is wedged in the grill of the semi that hit it

 

Yeah thats pretty much how it goes at a junkyard. Prepared to be insanely happy that you found something and then be disappointed as you realize that there's no match to it!

 

The one I go to is incredibly cheap, but they don't have much for toyota, right now they have 1 4 runner and 2 old school toyota pickups, but of course the parts are taken very fast. then there's the ford truck section... over 150 of them no question

 

u have to pay an entrance fee to get in right?

 

Its pretty hard to find a 2nd gen taco in a socal junk yard even if there is a late model section (which most yards don't have) but if you do end up getting lucky don't be greedy share the news!!

I've been checking with the local yards for a year now and they have yet to get any 2nd gens in.

 

Junk yards are a blast!!! i got some GT tail lights for my Mustang...But it's gone now.

 

We have Pick and Pull by me and a place called Creams and they have some good stuff sometimes

 

I would love to find an old Taco to build into a crawler.

dont go to pick-a-part out here, i went to the one in ontario...nothing but junk. If you find a shifter console for a 05+ auto. please let me know
