So myself, and manethon, will be building a box for my truck soon. I'm torn between birch plywood and MDF for the box, so suggestions are welcome. We'll be building the box to cover the whole back of the DC truck, with the exception of an amp rack on the one side. That will be around 13" across, the rest will be the box for the truck. The plan is to make it ported/sealed. Put a port in it, and have a port plug when I want it sealed, or run it ported. Anyone interested in pics of the build? We still have to work out details, like when we can get together, but I'm excited.

If you are going to cover it i would just go with MDF. If you are going to paint it or stain it i would go with the birch. I went with Birch for my home theater sub and painted it and it looks nice with the wood grain showing.

Ooooh, staining it. Never thought of that benefit. Birch may be the way to go. That would look so good in a cherry finish.:broccoli:

Thanks Tj0hn. Those measurements will help. I don't want to lose the child seat brackets, and it looks like your measurements take those into account. I just have to expand them to cover the back of the truck instead of just one side. I appreciate it.

So if manethon can't come through this weekend, I'm thinking I'm going to build this sub box on my own. Poor bastard had food poisoning, and is a little under the weather.

So, I think I'm going to attempt this sub box myself this weekend. Going to make it sealed/ported. Seal it up well with a port in it, and run it sealed with a port plug, and ported obviously without. My issue has always been cutting angles in wood. The top of my sub box is 3 1/2" and the bottom is 8". I want a good seal for the front baffle, and to do this, I need to cut angles in the top and bottom of the box. What's the best way to do this? I'll be using a skill saw and saw horses. Would I use the side pieces as templates to get the angle right for the cut? I'm building out of birch, not MDF, which is more expensive, so wasting a lot is not what I want to do.

    Any advice?
