I purchased my 05 SR5 4x4 in July 2005 while I was stationed in Rhode Island, I was transferred to California and now I live in NC. To make a long story short I had a Magnaflow muffler put on a few weeks back and when the guy was under the truck he asked me where I bought it from and I told him. He then made a comment to the other welders in the shop that the truck had "no, 0, none what so ever" undercoating. I would have thought that a truck being sold in the North would have undercoating for salt, snow etc. Do you think this is something I can maybe have done by Toyota. I could do it myself but it would be a project that I do not want to pay for any suggestions or opinions? I have already noticed a few rust spots.

If it wasn't listed on your original paperwork-I don't think you are going to get them to do it for free.
If the rust is to the point of damaging the frame- You might have something to go on...but other wise- I think you have an uphill battle to get anything from them. I'm sure you can get them to do it for $...but you could do it yourself for less or probably get a high quality job done by a specialty shop.

All that said- If you don't ask- then it won't happen. Give it a shot and if they say now...start shopping options.

PM Demoncleaner or maybe he'll chime in here. His truck is like yours 05 & lives upstate NY. He did his own this past fall & there are pics somewhere. Mine is a mess too & needs it done. Apparently lesson learned not getting done aftermarket from the get go. There is POR-15, can't remember what he used or having it done professionally, probably big bucks now that ours is rusted already. Yes not good in the salt regions :(

Living in Atlantic Canada I had mine done and will likely do it every second year. One product offered here is "Rust Check".Their claim is that even vehicles that are older and are exibiting some normal corrosion can be treated and the rust process inhibited....Not sure if this particular company exists in the US but there must be an equivilent.
