Im sure this has been talked about. Have any of you went from a mechanical fan to a duel electric set up?

Unless you need clearance because of a swap it is the worse thing you can do.

in the last 20 years I must have reinstalled stock fans 50 times.

This is kind of like getting Married most need to find out on their own

What is the reason your thinking about this ??

My truck came with dual electric Flex A Lite fans and I've wanted to take them out since I got the truck, I have overheating issues when wheeling (in 4lo) and the AC never worked very well with them installed.

Sure enough, I was sitting at a stoplight last week and the wiring harness to the e-fans starting smoking and nearly caught fire. Fans stopped working, so I ditched them and got a stock clutch fan installed. So far been much happier, the AC works much better and I imagine that it will work better off-road as well (should find out this weekend).

I think e-fans are better suited for racing applications where you get the added benefit of higher airflow from outside air, off-roading they don't seem to work very well.

We had a guy out at Ocotillo this weekend overheating. Said he just put those fans in too.

Not a stupid question, it's good to ask because it helps steer people in the right direction when they are considering doing something. I've met guys with e-fans on their trucks that love them, but in my experience (with the ones I had anyway) it wasn't worth it.

I ran them on a previous truck. Very noisy when running, high current draw when running. Saw no measurable benefits. I wouldn't do it again.

That's the other thing, holy hell were they loud. On Flex a Lite's website they say that they're much quieter than the stock fan clutch, but my truck was always screaming (and pulsating inside) from the e-fans, especially when the motor got really hot. Much quieter now without them.

I must be the odd ball then because I've had them on for the last 15yrs with no problems what so ever. I do live in the desert and S/C'd

I've been considering adding a pusher to assist my stock mechanical fan. Takes a few minutes to cool the truck down in the summer here in Phx. That aside, I've never had an issue overheating in the all the years owning my truck in the stock config
