I searched but didn't find much about this trail. Plan to take the family in my prerunner this weekend. My five year will love the guided map leaflet and all the stops. Talked to the ranger on the phone Friday and he said my 2wd will do just fine and to stop in to the discovery center first to say hi.

any tips or advice? Plan to bring lunch and take our time. I'll report back after with some photos!

Looks like a good time! I'd say just make sure you have some recovery gear (shovel, tow straps, highlift/jack, extra tools) and plenty of water if you're only taking one vehicle.

& have fun! Wish we could make. @eccracer104 and I might make it up there the next weekend

Thanks! Yep I have everything but the hilift. I'll report back how the trail is but it sounds pretty mild.

just did it Saturday. Super fun long trail, mostly easy with some bumpy rocky roads towards the end. My brother and his frontier made it on street tires. There are plenty of side trails you can hit that are harder, but we stuck to the leaflet they gave us at the nature center. My 4 yr old had a blast checking out all the sites. Lots of getting out the car and exploring. Took us about 4 hours since we stopped a lot and took our time. I'll post photos when have a faster web connection!

You inspired me to try this trail with the family. Going this Friday. Wondering if taking this road and then heading to Big Pine Flats doable under 4 hrs? Anyone?

I just looked at the map for you. Big Pine Flats is off to the left of where the trail starts, and the gold fever trail goes the opposite direction. So once you finish the Gold Fever Trail you'd have to get back on main big bear lake road for awhile, then make your way up into the trails again. Honestly it took us 4 hours on the gold fever trail alone, so i'd give yourself an extra hour to get back to big pine. 5-6 hours. or you can do the gold fever trail backwards.
