The Sahara edition has a Dana 44 in the rear NOT the craptastic d35c. With that jeep you are getting the tried and true 4.0L inline 6 that produces great low end torque. The lift and tires work very well with Jeep. If you are going to look at it, make sure the diff's are dry as well as the TC, tranny and oil pan. Look under it for any major scrapes on the skid plate and the lower shock towers. That would indicate it has been in some fairly rough rocks. IF you test drive it, put it into 4wheel high and low to make sure it shifts cleanly. ALSO full turn lock either direction and make sure the tranny and TC bind up (you get resistance) while moving. Other than that is looks like a nice buy, a little inflated because it IS a Jeep but other than that it looks solid.

The D44 was an OPTION back then. The Rubicon was the only Wrangler that came with Dana 44's from the factory.

Looks good! I'd say he/she should be able to let it go for 7500? That would be a good price for both you and the seller IMO.

If they are only using it to run around town and vacation. I read you were talking about a hard core wheel'n vehicle. That liberty wouldnt be my first choice.

The wrangler will take you more places while the liberty is good for some minor wheeln. I've seen one lifted where I live, but couldnt tell how it wheels.

They also run IFS. The jeep runs a straight axle in the front. I've never had any big problems with my IFS, but a straight axle is the way to go. I'd do some more shopping if I were you. Might find a good one also for about 3 grand compared to 8 and do some MODs to it.

If you plan on building a hardcore offroad rig.... get a WRANGLER.

In fact, I would search for a used Wrangler Rubicon TJ 97+ years. It'll have solid front & rear axles, Dana 44's front & rear, selectable lockers front & rear, and a better (lower crawl ratio) transfer case. 4.0L engine. Coil spring suspension.
The only downside to a Rubicon, is they might be beat up.

Or, look for a YJ (91-94) and build yourself a Rubicon. I had a 92 and 94 that I built. The rig I built is far superiror than the factory Rubicon. Same 4.0L engine with leaf spring suspension.

Just depends on what your plans on and how much of an offroad rig you're planning on building.

I have a 1989 YJ with the rabid squirl 2.5L 4 cylinder. It has a 3.5 inch FabTec SUA lift and sits on a 1979 Ford high pinion Dana60, 35 spline inners and outers and in the rear a GM 14bolt. Both are detroit locked and have 5.13 ratios. Earlier this summer I stuffed in a SM465 granny tranny. The 6.55 low gear makes crawling easy with the weak 2.5L while turning 35" BFGs. The 35s are small for for those massive boat anchors, I want 42"+ tires. Any how, in all there is a total of 9-10k in parts including the Jeep itself which I got for 3k. Take your time looking for something you will really like.

Jeeps will be more expensive because of the Jeep brand name. With a Jeep you will get a narrower machine with a shorter wheelbase. Don't get me wrong I love my Jeep project but I wish I took my time deciding what I wanted for a machine.

Maybe look at the 3/4 to 1 ton trucks. You will get the heavier drive trains (D60 and larger), longer wheelbase and V8 or even diesel power. It is fairly easy to put larger tires under these trucks. Just do not use lift blocks if you are going to wheel.
