I was t-boned at an intersection a few weeks ago. I now have a rental car while the Tacoma is getting fixed and some one rear-ended me at a stop light and sped off. Hit and run. Unbelievable. I am not 100% committed to getting a dash cam and want to do front and back.

I know a lot of people have the Garmin Mini 2 because you can easily link it with the Dongar wire harness. However, I'm looking for something that can go front AND back. Any suggestions? Hoping I can do the install myself. I'm ok with only having the dash cams on while the truck is running.

Thinkware has been good to me, but I recommend buying two separate cameras because I've been having a lot of issues with the two camera/one cars setup. Cobra was also surprisingly good!

    Oh look, another mod....
Get two Mini 2's, wire the first one with the adapter and run the cable directly to the battery with the second. Easy Peasy.

FYI: Dashcam's don't mean shit if:

    A) The person hits, runs away and you can't make out their license plate, or...
    B) The person who hit you doesn't have insurance.

Always, always, always, always....make sure you carry Uninsured & Underinsured on your insurance policy.

Hmmm. What's a good value dash can get that will show the license plate? Is this Garmin mini 2 good enough for that?

I have a Garmin Mini 2. The camera works great. I have had two issues with it.

First was the memory card... I originally bought a Samsung Evo Plus 256gb card. Installed easy enough. Everything was working, and then it started beeping randomly. I check with the app and it tells me the card is running slow and needs reformatting. After reformatting it starts doing it again about a week later. I have since swapped in a 64gb card that has not had a problem.

The second issue I have had is app that interfaces with the camera. Connects and interfaces with the camera no problem, but when I am away from the truck I constantly got warning that the app was slowing down wifi trying to connect to the camera. I could not find any settings to correct this, so I eventually deleted the app.
