We are considering purchasing a clean Tacoma with tow package and camper shell with bed liner. It has an 'on the fly' 4wd button too. Truck has 215K miles. Maintenance completed by our mechanic. Tires at 45% or so. 6 cylinder 5 speed with new clutch and resurfaced flywheel. New catalytic converters.

Is $8K a good price for California?

I would love to see some pics, I got mine for $7.6k and its the same as yours just a 4 spd without a camper shell. I would say thats a good price for Cali with the info that you gave. More info/pics would help tho.

    Mary,

You need to thoroughly inspect this truck for frame rust even if it is from California. From reading your post, there sounds like there is something fishy going on with this truck. Double cabs did not receive many manual 5-speed transmissions if they did at all so you need to check the tag on it to make sure everything lines up with the truck. California trucks even with this many miles are more expensive than this truck.

    Hope that helps,
    Paul

Thanks, she wrote it's a double cab. But now we know it is not. The timing belt was replaced recently by our mechanic. He's great and fixes everything to keep us safe on these mountain roads.

Extra Cab. Access cabs have a door and were 2nd generation on.

Thanks Mr. TwoBeers. So without the 2 extra doors sounds like $8K is still a good price? Looks like the 5 speed 4x4 is real too. Reviewing the buyers guide now.

If it's mechanically sound and the body is straight and rust free, around $8K wouldn't be a bad deal in my opinion.

for clarification, this is a 2001 Tacoma 5spd manual 4x4 extra-cab with bed liner, tow pakage, shell, tires are 50%, on the fly 4wd shift, new cluch, resurfqced pressure plate, new ball joints, new timing belt, both cat's replaced, afdtermarket stereo, moderately clean interior, 215k miles, no signs of rusting, drives well, shifts through all gears well.
