In the market for some nice all terrains. Not sure if there is already a thread on here about these two tires. Just wanted some opinions of each tire!

There are threads. I've run both. I like the KO2s much better, hands down. The Duratracs were very slippery in the rain after a little wear (I'm in Seattle area). They are also known for having weaker sidewalls. It depends on your use case.

The KO2s handle the rain better. They have improved sidewall strength. They have tread that wraps around the tire so you can use your sidewalls off road. The are more aggressively siped. It is a far more superiorly engineered tire IMO.

My truck is mainly a highway commuter, but I also like to take it out in the mountains and run trails and do some playing on the rocks. Where I wheel the rocks are sharp volcanic rock, tire durability is important.

    Improvements to the KO2 tire:

Yeah man I'm in the Seattle area too, and the KO2s are an amazing all terrain tire. I've driven in a multitude of conditions are they have performed extremely well. From wet roads, to mud, to snow, I'm happy I went with the KO2s.

I'm waiting to pull the trigger on the KO2s. Still debating on wether to put them on my stock 17's or go for some 16's.

I just put some ko2's on and we got rain the day after. They did great in wet conditions, testing them in snow next.

I'll confirm the KO2's are great in the rain.

One thing about them that I've never experienced before, I was slowly backing up towards a curb at slight angle and didn't even realize the rear tire had climbed onto the curb. The sidewalls blocks are for a lot more than just looks!

I've run both. I prefer the KO2's. My Duratracs were slick in the rain and one went flat because of a sidewall puncture. I think the Duratracs are fine tires, I just like the KO2's better.

I'm on my second set of Duratracs, very happy with them. They have performed great off-road and in the snow. I have the E-rated tires and keep them at ~40psi, ride very smooth and comfortable. They do however wear down in ~40k miles.

    To come.
^^^ 40K miles seems like a lot. But then again, I most drive low-profile performance tires in sports car. They only last like 10k-15K miles. The stock BFG Rugged on the 2013 we used to have were approaching the wear bars at 30K miles. I'm leaning towards Duratracs over here.

I'm running 265/75/r16 Duratrac load range C. Confused as to why some people complain about them on wet roads. Mine hold the road great, wet or dry. One of the best snow tires you can get, and where they surpass KO2's in in the greasy clay mud we have around here in Kentucky. KO2's load up with mud. (Had 'em on another truck) Duratracs clean better. I'm @ 21,000 miles and just barely can measure ANY wear from new. Keep 'em rotated like ANY open tread tire. (Every 5000 miles @ minimum) I'll be stepping up to 285's or MAYBE 305's next tire change. While size IS a question, brand ISN'T. I'll be back to the Goodyear dealer for Duratracs again.

    Hey all,
About to slap on some 285/75/16 Ko2's any idea if they are offered in any range other than Load range E? I hear the E range is relatively heavy and reduces fuel mileage quite a bit. I used to run the all terrain BFG's on my 1 tons years ago, this is my first Tacoma and i'm curious to see if they reduce the power and fuel mileage of the vehicle.

    Any input is appreciated.

I am not a fan of the BFG's and am working with Discount Tire right now on returning them. They do not shed snow from their tread at all. Twice in the last month I've gotten stuck in 4-6" of non compacted snow. The tread filled up with snow both times and the tires just spun. It didn't matter how fast or slow the tires were turning, the tires held onto the snow in the tread. Both occurrences were on Forrest Service roads in spots where the sun had yet to melt the snow off. I got only a few feet past the beginning of the snow with the back tires and could go no further. 4wd was engaged both times. I had Duratracs on my FJ and could run around in all kinds of various snow/ice conditions and NEVER got stuck. The Duratracs do a good job of clearing their tread to keep you moving.
