Hmm that's odd. I have noticed a drop in MPG going from the P rated Hankook to the C rated Duratracs but I did not have any noticeable decrease going from the 245/75-16 stockers to the 265/70-17 ATM's. I got 19-21 in both sets.

Just checking in on these, I don't know the mileage on the Duratracs exactly but it's somewhere around 18-20k (I'll grab an exact tonight). Still happy, they still look great and are wearing great tread depth wise. Traction in the snow is still fantastic at 20k. I don't notice the poor rain traction that others have. I live in Seattle and IMO they are just as good as any other AT I've ran, I noted that in the beginning and still find it to be true.

The reason I'm checking in however is to report that we are having a bit of trouble keeping them balanced. It seems they need to be re-balanced at every to every other rotation. Somewhere around 10-14k of wear they developed a bad vibration around 65-70 mph. We had them re-balanced and they were "way off" according to the tech, after that the ride was like new again. We just went in for another rotation and had them check the balance again and once again they were off a little bit which was causing a very minor vibration at the same speeds.

I know people have complained about getting them balanced right... I'm wondering if it's more of a wear issue and that they just need more attention as they wear. I don't mind because Discount offers balancing for free, we'll just get them checked when we're in for a rotation.

I'm happy with the C rated P265/70 x 16 Duratracs. My DC has always seemed to be hard on tires, but these are doing well (maybe 10k miles so far). My rig hauls toys around, so the tires live an easy life. I get free alignment and balance during rotation.

They are rock solid in standing water. Less hydroplaning than previous tires. Wet road grip seems fine under normal driving conditions.

To the OP.. thanks for taking the time to give real life feedback on these tires. I am in the search for new tires for my 2015 and can't decide between the ATM and the Duratrac. If you truck was still your daily driver would you still get the duratracs or would you rather have the ATMs? Appreciate any comments.

I'm not the OP but I do have Hankook Dynapro ATM on my truck. I have had them for about 20,000 miles. They are silent, excellent handling, and show virtually no signs of wear. When they need replaced I will buy ATM's again. They are so much nicer than all the BFG All-Terrains I have used in the past! Hankook is a much better value as well.

If it was still my daily driver I would still run the Duratracs but would have gone with a P rating, not LT C. (weight savings for gas) The only issue with the Hankook was traction in sloppy snow, not powder. In the PNW we get a lot of wet heavy slushy snow and traction is terrible in that with the Hankook. As a family we spend a lot of time in the winter months playing in the snow, going over mountain passes etc. To clarify, getting around town was never an issue with the Hankooks it was off road deeper snow driving. They grip well in ice.

The Hankooks were a great set of tires, the best AT I had run. If snow traction wasn't a concern for me, ie: different part of the country I would run those all the time.

I loved my duratracs until tread was around 50%. After that, balancing was a constant issue, wet pavement traction was an issue, and they got pretty loud. The more they wore, the worse these issues became.

I bought them from Discount Tire and had them do regular balancing and rotations. Usually around 1,000 miles after the balancing was done, the truck and steering wheel would start to shake again. I would take it back to get another balance, which was usually way off. I had them sipe the tires during this time period and that helped dramatically with the wet traction issue. Eventually the balancing issue became such a hassle I bought new tires. I think the guys at the tire shop were tired of seeing me as well. They kept blaming the wheels for the constant balancing problem. Four years later, two other brands of tires on the same wheels and I still don't have the balancing issues I had with the duratracs.

A close friend of mine had the same issues with his. He loved 'em until they started to wear. He thought I was nuts with all the problems I was having until his started to wear. He switched to another brand and his problems went away. (He also has a Tacoma)

I will add that those were hands-down the best tires I've ever ran in the snow. It's unfortunate I had these issues as they were great tires until around 50% tread. If they could resolve those issues, I'd happily buy them again.

I have had some issues balance wise but it's been very minor except for the first re-balance when one of them was significantly off. Could have thrown a weight... not sure. I don't mind, I usually have them check balance anyway when they rotate.

    @tire rack...

i have had the dura trac on my truck prior to the authority a/t's on there now and was very impressed with the overall traction they give.
if i had to rate them i would say about 7 on the hwy as they are slightly louder than i expected.
snow; (northeast) about 9. deep and shallow snow about the same.
rain; 7+. they do get spinn-y after the tread gets low but i have had much worse and its easy to get used to.
mud; 7-9 they are not a super-swamper but they are definitely ok in the thick clay we have here and on par with a set of studded hancook dynapro M/T that i've had and was quite impressed with but absolutely tops on the greasy freeze thaw mud (frozen ground with 1/2 inch or so thawed on top) that has stopped dead every other tire i've tried except the authority's i have now.
ice; 8 very impressed here in comparison with others i've used which include several winter specific tires.
sand;() i dont drive sand very much but OBX beaches were no trouble at street psi and with careful acceleration so no # here as it would not be accurate.
overall i give about a 9 for my uses which are mild off road and pry about a 25/60/15 city/hwy/off road ratio.

Thanks for all the info. I pulled the trigger on the ATM's from DT and got a set for $487. So can't complain. Will try to post some pics up on the new tires, wheels and lift once i get it all complete. Thanks again.

I've been running the 255/75R17 Hankooks for about a year now. I really like them - but that said the only thing I have to compare to are the stock Dunlops (lol). They're night-and-day in regard to performance, especially in winter. I've also taken them on some burly backroads and they've done great. Actually, better than I would have expected in mud.

My only true complaint is that during the summer they brown quite heavily. And it varies from tire to tire, because my rear-passenger is by far the worst. A coating of 303 protectant makes them look great, but after a couple weeks they're turning brown again.

I'm heavily considering upgrading them though. I want more diameter, and I'm not comfortable driving around a P tire. I love the performance of one - these tires are only 38 lbs - but I fear a flat while in the middle of nowhere. It's a daily-driver/weekend-warrior truck, but I'd still like the peace of mind.

That's why you see such drastic differences in MPG and handling characteristics; tires are unsprung weight. Heavier unsprung weight drastically reduces ride quality and MPG. I went from P rated hankooks and 18-20+MPG to C rated Duratracs and am getting 15.5-17.

This is the primary reason I chose the Dynapro ATMs. I wanted to retain factory ride quality, mpgs, and tread life, but at the same time get a larger tire, that is aggressive enough to take me anywhere: snow, ice, gravel, dirt, and a little mud. I have only had the Hankooks for a month, but I think I achieved that with my wheel combo:

    New Wheels:
    39.0lbs - Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10 P265/75R16 114T
    19.3lbs - Konig Countersteer 16x8 Graphite Gunmetal
    58.3lbs total, 31.7" diameter

    Old Wheels:
    61.0lbs - Bridgestone Dueler H/T P265/65R17, OEM 17" Alloys
    61.0lbs total, 30.6" diameter

New wheels are about the same weight, and 1 inch larger.

I'll report back on treadlife in a year, but I tend to destroy tires, so this will be an abuse/worst case scenario. Here's what I mean:

I filmed this with about 500 miles on these tire. Standard break-in procedure, right?

Still, very impressed with these tires. They recently got me up a ridiculous dirt incline at my local offroad area that most other trucks can't get up. Bonus is that they were very affordable.

I loved them in everything but wet snow, they were not great, but to be honest I've never driven an AT that was great in those conditions until the Duratrac. All other AT's I have run suffer in PNW snow.

True. But a lot of guys like to weekend-warrior their truck, so they need the performance of a beefier tire. I don't think it's necessarily wrong to choose a heavier/beefier tire at the cost of on-road performance, especially considering the consequences of something going wrong out on the trail.

It's the unfortunate situation of wanting the best of both worlds for our trucks.

I've been running P265/75-16 Hankook ATMs on my Jeep for about 5k...I found a deal on Craigslist recently for some takeoff wheels & tires for my Jeep, so the Hankooks are going onto my Tacoma, probably this weekend. I have agreed with all the reviews on these tires, and really look forward to having them on the Tacoma. Thanks for all the positive input.
