Just to remind myself, P rating is heavier duty than the LT ?

I've been seriously looking into getting some hancook Dynapro 265/75/16. Mainly cuz the price range is so much more reasonable compared to BFG or GOOODYEAR.

I don't do much serious off road driving, I like the aggressive look of these while still maintaining reasonable MPG And tread life

However I don't like the fact that the lettering on the tire has only a white outline as opposed to being a white fill like on the BFG / GOODYEAR. Stupid I know, but it bugs me =D

Not sure I'm willing the the premium for whiter letters! Lol.

No, P rating means passenger which is typical stock tire for our trucks, most 1/2 ton trucks and SUV's etc. LT is light truck, light compared to 1 ton and heavier trucks, which is a stiffer much heavier tire. You'll find all kinds of differing opinions on Tacoma World but the fact is that the P rated tire is fine if you don't do serious off-roading or continually haul heavy cargo... which may bring into question the purchase of a Tacoma. The LT will also cost you a couple to several MPG's vs. a P rated tired.

LT rated tires come in varying degrees of ply ratings, weight etc. Commonly C, D & E.

For comparison in my Tacoma running the P rated Hankooks I was at 19-20 MPG, I now sit around 16-17 with C rated Duratracs.

Also, with moment of inertia, it increases exponentially as you move away from the axis of rotation. This is why the weight of tires has more of an impact than the weight of wheels (sometimes it's about a 10:1 ratio depending on the diameter, meaning if you gained 1 lbs in tire you would need to lose 10lbs in wheel weight to offset). Why is this important? The moment of inertia is an indication of how much resistance a certain mass has to changes in velocity.

This impacts steering, braking, acceleration.. Essentially all aspects of vehicle dynamics.

Damn I didn't realize that the duratracs on my 4runner were this old until I read this thread. I posted back in 2014. I drive this truck 300 miles every weekend to my place in the mountains of WV and so far no issues. They still perform good on the interstate (they do have some road noise at highway speeds now) but they still perform great on the dirt, mud & gravel mountain roads to my cabin and this truck gets beat on. I religiously rotate them every other oil change which is every 6k miles. Not only does my 4runner have duratracs, but both of my tacomas & my lifted Landcruiser, no complaints here.

Got the new Falkens on today.. first impression? My god were the Duratrac's bad in the end. They Falkens are near silent compared and smooth as butter, nice to be back in a SL tire. I'll update this thread as time goes on for the Falkens. They look great and so far I'm happy with the purchase. 11 years and 174k miles.. not bad looking still!
