I was probably just unlucky, but since I encounter a lot of rock in my state, I'm trying to get something beefier. The on-road performance of the p-metric Trailrunners is superb though, I must say. And off-road performance is very good (as long as you don't frequent rocky areas).

The p-metric Trailrunner choice was my mistake. I was hoping I could get away with it. Seems I was mistaken.

In fact, I might even go with the Trailrunner AT in a LT265/75/16 depending on what kind of options/pricing Goodyear gives me on the Duratracs.

I've had 3 sets of Duratracs. They are an awesome tire in the snow, ice, and mud. 110% satisfied in that regard. However in my experience if you don't rotate every 5000 miles or so they get loud. Very very loud. Even if you rotate frequently, they will eventually get loud anyway.

@JNG I'm definitely aiming for the Load C version. Were your 3 sets Load E?

Load range C. I don't know squat about 4wheeling in the rocky stuff but for mud, snow and ice they are terrific for me. Just have the eventual noise issue to contend with.

Goodyear has a great 30-day pledge/policy so I was able to swap my Trailrunners for Duratracs at no extra fee (other than actual price diff). Went with Load Range C LT265/75/16 (stock height--no lift, no rubbing even at full lock, I do have mud flaps removed fyi). Only drove them about 15 highway miles but I got them up to 80+ mph. They are slightly stiffer (and noisier) than the Trailrunners, which was expected. They don't have the same plush highway ride, but they will give me peace of mind off road. They weigh 9 pounds more (each) than the Trailrunners and acceleration seemed slightly reduced. I'll have to experiment a little with psi of course.

Sorry for veering slightly off topic, but I thought it might be helpful to compare the differences between the two.

@2001 4x4 Very small difference, and quite honestly could just be in my head. I only drove home from the tire shop, about 15 miles. I wouldn't let it dissuade you from buying Duratracs. If you only go off road a few times per year, and/or on relatively mild dirt, the Trailrunners would be perfect. They ride and corner so smooth on the highway and provided more than enough grip for fairly serious wheelin' when aired down a bit. I only replaced them because they couldn't handle the sharp rocks we have out here. It was not an easy decision--they're very good tires.

Here's the Trailrunners on my stock Tacoma. Tried to air down from 26psi to 20psi but my buddy helped me, and we later discovered his gauge was way off--so I was possibly down to about 15psi on the front. I think that may have been too low for the p-metric version, and possibly related to the passenger front puncture I got that day.

I’ve had the TrailRunners installed on my Tacoma for the past six months. They aren’t much noisier than the OEM Bridgestone Deulers that they replaced. The tires feel very competent on dry pavement. It’s been raining, more like pouring, here the past month and I haven’t had any issues with the tires losing grip with the road. All in all I’m really happy with these tires.
