Got a new yellow sticker in the mail from Toyota?!!
It says there was an error when they calculated my payload capacity
and the old reduction of more than 290 pounds on the inside the door yellow sticker was an error. Fir my Vin number they updated it and sent me a ne sticker that now says... Reduced by 39 pounds!! WTF?? Is this toyotas attempt to cover there ass on the 2009s??? I'm confused now. How could this apply to a possible 2009 rear TSB???

Interesting. I have a 09 DC 4x4 w TRD Off road. I have a yellow sticker in my door jam of my driver side it reads:

    CAUTION: LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY REDUCED
Modifications to this vehicle have reduced the original load carrying capacity by:
    14kg or 31 lbs

    MDC# 00107-FMVSS

The way I understand it, the new yellow sticker would be an improvement over what the original sticker stated.

Next time I am at the dealer I am going to ask them why the yellow sticker

I just put the sticker on. I have an 09 dc offroad tow package. It originally said 290 pounds the née sticker is now 31 pounds. I am happy but hope it won't affect a possible rear tsb.

Mine says 5 lbs, came with the truck when I bought it. How are they even able to calculate the payload discrepency down to 5 lbs, I bet the error invovled in the calculation is closer to 50. Just silly.

I dont think it has anything to do with the rear leaf TSB. My buddy's 09 FJ Cruiser has a sticker. His reduction is 38 lbs. ?????? Good luck figuring this one out!

I wonder what the actual cost to Toyota is for the stronger leaf pack?

I found the answer to why they are sending you a new yellow sticker. The stickers are part of a safety recall. The recall had to do with conforming to a U.S. Federal Vehicle Standard.

    NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V223000

Toyota is doing it to comply with U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety laws. If they don't do it... Perhaps after a few people die, and lawsuits filed, it could very well be an expensive day in court for Toyota!

I received the same sticker and i was also wondering WTF? I'm glad i found this post to clarify things some. I have already been approved for the TSB so I'm not real worried about it.

So it's like nothing to do with the crap leaf packs they still put on the trucks but claim are the better 4 packs?
It's just if you overload it, something will blow apart on the wheel and the tire will rip apart and you'll die? Maybe not that drastic but something like that.

i think at first some idoit came up with the add the little yellow sticker to help solve the week spring issue. i think the 290 lb weight was the standard number used.
but of coarse the safety people got wind, probably told them you cant just issue a standard sticker on all the vehicles.
so they probally had to review each vehicles options to come up with the correct weight number and send a corrected sticker.
of coarse this still doesnt fix the week spring issue, the springs are not faulty, just not up to our usual standards.
so issue stickers, hope the majority dont complain, and try not to do too many tsbs!

    Exactly!

    For other posters here:
The sticker is part of a safety recall. The TSB Leaf pack has nothing to do with the sticker. They are completely separate topics and are not related whatsoever.

I would not believe anything they tell you! I was driving in my 2006 4x4 Dbl Cab TRD Sport on a flat road and the front strut on the drivers side broke! It just snapped off at the bottom shaft. This caused the front drivers side to drop down about 2" and rub the tire. I took it to my local dealership and the 2 guys behind the service counter came out looked at it and asked me what my mileage was. I told them it was 27K They both siad no problem it's under warrenty. 5 minutes later the service manager came out and said I must have hit something. I told him I did not. He said he would not cover it. I contacted Toyota Motor Corp and they said the district manager would contact me and come out to look at it within 3 days. After 5 days and no call, I called them again and they said the district manager had looked at it and agreed with the service manager that I must have hit something. ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT WAS MY TRUCK WAS BACK AT MY HOUSE AND THEY NEVER CAME NEAR MY HOUSE, SO IT WAS AN OUT IN OUT LIE! I told the person at CORP this and they said I could file an appeal thru arbbitration. I did that but never heard back from anyone. I also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (they oversee warranties) They sent me a packet and asked me to send photos so they could keep it on record in case there were many others with this problem, then they might investigate it to determine if a recall would be needed. Again, Never heard from them again. I recently broke the stock passanger side rear leaf spring just in front of the drive axle. Now I have replaced all my suspension with OLD MAN EMU front struts, springs and rear leafs, shocks. LOVE IT and cost about $1000.00 total Gives me about a 3" lift, I added a 3 degree shim under the rear leafs. Oh yeah, Toyota (3 leaf spring) was $621 for each side, but since I broke it already, why would I want another. OME/Dakkar was $171 per side and has 7 leafs.

This is the only kind of stuff that makes people skeptical about buying imports. Especially after owning one import it makes me skeptical about buying another...but I want a Taco and I hope Toyota has better customer service than Mazda.
Good to hear you got it fixed to your liking...screw manufacturer replacements. They're overpriced and will most likely do what your first ones did in the first place. (unless they actually redesigned and rebuilt them to fix the problem)

Wow, that's some pretty horrible service. I hate to say it but it isnt import vs foreign, this is the american side of the car industry, and people wonder why its tanking.
